thanks for the replies, everyone...it seems that only Assassin had encounered the same problem...I maybe just not good enough to know WHEN exactly I should give him a breather and let him speak, since he loves to heal himself (from Near Death to Uninjured). The battle is much tougher but, imo, this "leaving him breath and letting him talk" thing is just too unpleasant (well, standard or improved, the game will automatically pause when Bodhi is about to die [standard] or heal herself back [improved], when standard Abazigal needs to give the last speech).

After getting familiar with all those drakes, the purple dragon, and the more verstile Abazigal, the most difficult thing about this battle is to seize up the moment when Abazigal feels Near Death enough to give speech

I don't know how to put images in a post, and so I use link; just want to share with you guys one thing or two about this always dying but never dies dragon

these images were captured in chronical order, within the time span of almost half an hour.

well, after his THIRD Near Death -> Uninjured, I called it a day.

For me, if I'm having trouble with enemies staying at Near Death (after numberous tries), I relieve all of my characters of any Stunning equipment, and don't use Time Stop or any stunning spells. Usually works. For me, I figured out the Abazigal problem by, instead of casting Time Stop, just to bash him into a pulp.

I only use time stop once in several tries -- with or without time stop, I couldn't "bash him into a pulp" even if I took more than 500 HP from his Near Death state. My problem with this tougher version is that the game should be automatically pause when Abazigal is ready to give his final speech...that's how the original Abazigal fight works...why it's different in the imporved fight if in the end he still need to deliver the speech?

In all the SoA/ToB games I've played thus far, sometimes, Near Death enemies that never die do occur, but after I quit and load the game again, I can kill them as as usual...often times it's just a glitch. This improved dragon is different. I don't think it's too much to ask for an auto game pause in that crucial moment after we survived a bunch of drakes and two dragons

thanks, I'll try that in my next run...I was just tired of doing that battle and procceeded to the end of the game already (I finished the standard Abazigal first and then tried out the improved one in case I could never pass it )
