That's absurd. My party of 5th and 6th level characters had no troubles finishing the game. In order to play this game all the way through, you don't have to do every quest and go to every map. In the game I am referring to, I did maybe a third of the quests and went to about half the game areas on the map, never fully exporing the ones I did go to.

There's no recipe for success in this game other than having fun.

Also, the difference between Algernon's Cloak the the Nymph Cloak is that Algernon's has pretty much unlimited charges, while the other does not.

It's not absurd. It depended on which way the game works.

There are two possibilites:

i)The bosses remain at a set level
ii)The bosses alter their levels in accordance with yours

I guessed i), therefore he isn't ready.
You tell me he is ready, therefore ii) must be correct. And i don't know, as I always did the quests!

I've never actually completed BG1, but like most battles I'd expect that some people will find it easy, others not so. Even with the same party at the same levels, some luck is involved.

I'm pretty sure that the stats of Sarevok and his comrades are fixed BUT TotSC changes them to increase the challenge. I'm also sure that the game is designed to be finishable with a lower level party - the optional quests are just that - optional.
