Potential Spoiler
* * * * * * * * * * * * * The staff of the ram +6 is the most damaging weapon out there. 1D6+12 + 1D4 piercing damage gives a potential 22 damage before weapon proficiencies and strength has been taken into consideration. If your guy is grand mastery with staffs, this gives a further +3 to damage, and with slots spent in two handed weapon style, they have +1 damage. If they have the gauntlets of weapon expertise or extrodainry specialisation, this is a further +2, and if they have the girdle of fire giant strength, there is an additional +10 damage too. This means this quarter staff can dish out a potential 38 damage. You can add 8-10 damage to this if your main char is a kensai, so corect me if i'm wrong, but doesn't this make it the most damaging weapon in the game (excluding poison effects from weapons such as the ravenger, this is raw weapon damage and not chance damage) [This message has been edited by Jim (edited 07-26-2001).] |

Thats alot of damage..
Edit The upgraded Flail of the Ages has the potential to be just as nasty. 1d6+6, +2 fire/cold/poison/electricity/acid. That makes it 1d6+16 possible damage if the enemy doesn't have resistances to the elemental damage. Thats not even including strength, girdles or weapon profiencies. All in all, the staff of the ram may be a bit more powerful, but you have to give up a shield to use it. [This message has been edited by Gustave (edited 07-27-2001).] |

the sword of grief for saravok !! he can only use his death bringers assult with a 2 handed sword and the BEST weapon in the GAME is no doubt the +6 Ravager,10% chance to kill in a single hit (THIS IS THE ONLY vorpal Weapon in GAME with nosave vs Vorpal effect) also on EVERY hit the monster has to save vs (spell?) or take a auto matic 3-18 EXTRA points of damage (its not poison or anything just damage so there is NOTHING resistant to it)

Gustave,
I agree with you. The Flail of ages +5 does dish out lots of damage, but the 1d6+6 is only really the weapon's main damage, as all the elemental damage would not be doubled on a critical hit. Using two handed weapon style specialisation also means that you're twice as likely to roll a critical hit using two handed weapons (around one in ten hits will be critical). Losing a shield may be a lot to sacrifice, but most enemies in ToB have such high THAC0's that it doesn't really matter what your armour class is. |

RedblueFlare:
Sword of Grief +5 (upgraded) gives you: 2Hswd that drains 1 level on every hit unless save at -5 pen does extra 2d10 poison damage unless save on every hit OUCH! But the Answerer is the best no? |

Hey call me old fashoned but I like using weapons that fit the class. Sarevok uses Ravager. My sorcerer uses staff of magi. My Palidan uses Carsomyr. My Cleric uses Flail of Ages. My Barbarian uses Warblade etc., etc., etc.

Agree with fdirs. My Assassin uses the Dagger of the Stars and sometimes the Spectral Brand. Carsomyr for the Paladin, Axe of the Unyielding for the Heavy fighter. Unfortunately there isn't any fancy longbow in the game.
My mage likes staves of the Magi and the Ram. None of my people can use the Ravager, which is a shame. Ixil's Spear looks pretty good too. So does Gram, sword of Grief. The choices are wide. Great game... |
