Well first of all there's an extra 'A' in my usage of the acronym, so I was in fact referring to second ed AD&D which came later on (1989 I think)
Anyway, I was merely making a logical assertion that the first PnP group we played with as a whole possibly may have influenced how we prefer to pronounce 'drow'.

I wasn't by any means referring to any kind of 'official' guide at all.

Drow drow drow your pronunciation, gently down the underdark,
Wearily, wearily, wearily, wearily...
Lolth will see you bleed.

So indeed, keep the torches burning!

I can understand the pronunciation... sort of like bow.

Draw your bow!

Bow down to me!

See what I mean?

I've always thought it was the first option; as in 'how now brown cow'.

thanks very much folks - seems like the majority favour 'like cow' (although i enjoyed the english/french distinction)

I pronounce it like 'D'oh'- just with an additional 'r'.

I would have to agree with the majority and go with cow on this.
