I must say that the dialogue is also a bit strange, with the PC having the option to reject the proposition by accusing Lord Khellon Menold of being "cruel and selfish" and "an evil little halfling" given the PC will be evil themselves.

A high charisma score will allow the PC to extract some extra gold out of Menold as part of the haggling over accepting the proposition.

That the PC is evil does not necessarily mean that he is always evil in every respect. He can kill people because he thinks it's fun, and still respect nature. Or he can be a priest of Lathander who thinks that forests and druids are inherently maevolent and should be both be burned and in case of forests, salted so that no plants will ever grow there again.
