And it's cheesy. You're too afraid to take them head on? I mean: this way it's like shooting people in the back.

Bleh. I don't consider Monks overpowered, but that's just me. They don't get their godly stuff until later on, where everyone else has their godly stuff as well. And their fists, while decent, can't match the 7 ApR or higher that an IH'ed Fighter can produce. Not to mention taht a Fighter can have some other goodies because of those weapons/shields that the Monk doesn't have. Their MR is good, I'll give you that, but the Cloak of Cheese is pretty much all you need for spells.

Yes, I have played a Monk. They're good for taking out Fighters, which are generally, for me, the easiest enemies in the game, because every single class can take care of a group of Fighters easily. They have trouble with Mages, which others don't, because other Fighters can simply whip out their normal weapons and pound them to goo, while the Monk, if he changes to a weapon, has to wait around using his crappy 1 ApR. Oh, and did I mention that his Fists don't pierce Stoneskin too?

That all said, it's still very viable as a solo'ist. Be prepared to run away if you find any Mages. Unless you have the Oversight Mod installed, you'll find it quite hard to take them on. Likewise, it'll be a right pain in order to get to the higher levels.

/puts up flame shield on to protect from the flames that his post will bring

Why should fists pierce stoneskin? Weapons don't pierce it either.
You could just have someone dispel it and continue attalking, though.

How does the FoA pierce stoneskin? Stoneskin should protect from all physical attalks.

The elemental damage damages the Mage, and disrupts the spellcasting. However, a normal Fist does not do anything to the spellcasting.
