Just in case anyone might be confused: In BG the vast majority of books you find are just books. 'Tomes' are books by which you may boost a particular ability. (Place it in a quickslot and then simply leftclick on it back in the game to boost the ability score in question.) There are tons of books littered all over the place throughout the game, but there are only a handful of 'tomes' (which may in some cases be described as a 'manual' also). The description of any book appears when you rightclick it. All the ability tomes have descriptions that clearly identify what they do.

DK if someone said this, but wisdom is the only thing that increases spells, and that is for clerics. But u need good int for BGII, if u want high spell level. And high int gives u a better chance to learn spells.
