Best way to deal with Umber Hulks: Saving Throws
Best way to deal with Illithids' Psionic Blast: Saving Throws
Effect boosted by Potions of Invulnerability: Saving Throws
Does Roger the Fence stock Potions of Invulnerability? Yes.

Best way to deal with Illithid's INT-draining melee attack: AC, Mirror Image, Spells such as Mantle, PfMW, etc., Potions of Genius, Potions of Mind Focusing, or just pulling the brain-drained person back from the front lines until he stops feeling stupid.

Those who have been through the Windspear Hills without too much difficulty should be able to clean out this lair with a pretty quick learning curve.

Pirengle, for me the U.E. has always dropped the 5% MR. Are you sure?

Six: completely forgot about Potions of Invulnerability. And what about Potions of Magic Shielding? For a few glorious rounds, all saving throws made automatically. And you're right, it is the 5% MR, not what I was thinking of. What I was thinking of comes too late to help, as well.

I'd rather save those for my non-Warriors: All you need to take Mind Flayers is a single good Tank, and all they need is a small boost to their Saves. If you gave them a P of MS instead of a P of I, then later on you've got a Mage looking woefully at a P of I and
A) Wishing he was allowed to drink it, and
B) Wishing all of his Saves were below 5 *before* the Potion.

I'm only three hours in front of you, time-wise, Six. I usually stop by my favorite coffeeshop for some sort of flavored coffee after work, but I didn't today. So now I'm drinking orange juice.

(I cooled off by playing some BG2 before going back to work on the FW fanfic. My Kelsey party recently obtained the sewer key, so we investigated the sewers. Let me tell you something, that place is much, MUCH easier after you've cleared Chapter 5. Kelsey proved his worth by clearing it all on his little lonesome. Tenser's Transformation off scrolls + Staff of Striking/Staff of Rynn + Potions of Power/Mind Focusing/Genius + Girdle of Hill Giant Strength = the Kelsenator. Talk to the hand, baby! )

On a school night? Tsk, tsk, Pirengle. Do you have MSN, offhand?

Tenser's Transformation is a very underrated spell, if used correctly. I digress. Jinny: If you're not in Chapter 6 yet, don't take on the mind flayers. There's no point, you can't use anything in there yet anyway.

best and simplest way to beat mind flayers:

A.

-cast : Chaotic Command (highly recommended)
-cast : Death Ward (highly recommended)
-cast it on : best fighter(no need to involve others)

then send those fighters!if you get your int. drained, then just go back, close the door, and wait till the curse wears off.or if u have potion of genius, drink it, and fight again.i manage to kill them just sending 1 fighter.

B.

im not sure, cause i haven't tried it before, but i think the mages spell invisible stalker is immune to the psionic blast.

I'm gonna raise a stink, I'm gonna hide it from sight, I'm gonna fill it with SPOILERS, so if you wanna get SPOILED, or if you wanna hear Pirengle ranting like Dennis Miller, highlight:

***I didn't find my first Mordy Swordy scroll until the duergar merchants in the Underdark. The only class that COULD get Mordy Swordy before then would be the sorcerer. But since I don't know if there's a PC sorc/Kelsey/Tashia involved, that's useless. The two pieces of item upgrade gear that offer psionics protection, the helm and the Imp. Lilarcor, require illithid brine and a control circlet, respectively, and the only places to find those in the game are in the illithid lair in Chapter 5. The greenstone amulet is from the corpse of the Unseeing Eye, unless you haven't installed Baldurdash, and then you can pick one up from a dead Mordy Swordy, but I didn't find my first scroll yada yada yada ad nauseum.

Judging by jinny's post, I'm guessing that she's still in Chapter 3, recently finished Windspear Hills (because she has the sewer key), and has a 10-14 level party good enough to bash up the evil sewer party. Now granted, knowing party makeup and gear would have made our lives a bit easier. Not that we're getting paid to hand out advice or rant off or anything. Giving someone advice involving parts of the game that haven't been reached yet, in my mind, seem pointless, with huge spoiler potential to boot.

I'll say it again, and this time I'll make it crystal clear: I DON'T RUN THINGS AROUND HERE. I can rant, I can rave, I can post almost any kind of crap that comes out of my poor tired fingers and my demented brain, but I DON'T RUN THINGS AROUND HERE. I'm not trying to enforce rules or make new ones. I DON'T RUN THINGS AROUND HERE. I worship (or at least jokingly say that I worship) the well-spoken wordsmiths around here, and give the best advice and opinions I can give, but...you guessed it...

I don't run things around here.

I wish people would get a Beholder lick of sense now and then. But in these situations, all I can do is gnash my teeth, play a hand of Cribbage, and hope that someday, sometime, somewhere, someone will get a clue.

But that's just my opinion. Of course, I could be wrong.

Why all these elaborate measures to stop Mind Flayers? What's wrong with Animate dead (a.k.a raise skeletons)? Its only a level 5 spell, so you'll need to be level 9 to cast it, and you can purchase the scroll (if you cant find it) right out of Chateau Irenicus.

Scince the skeletons dont have brains, they are immune to the mind flayers... it works for me.
