have you ever tried a monk? certainly sounds like you havent. "I'd rather have a Fighter, because late-game is all about killing things as fast as you can", not sure what your point here is. the monk can, after all, easily get 5 APR, and at levels 15+, the monks deal 1-20 damage PER HIT!(plus strenght damage i believe)ok, so the ac isnt the best possible, but its good enough. against mages who use PfMW, switch to a regular sling or darts and missle away, possibly eating away his stoneskin aswell. quivering palm has a good chance to kill on hit(if your gonna use improved haste, which requires a mage, the mage can cast greater malison to significantly increase the possibility of the killing blow), not to mention the handy stunning blow. GW is good as well, since it sets the APR to 10, which means there wont be much of the mage(or fighter) left after its done! also, if some wise ass makes a point of a possible absolute immunity, you can either use your naturally super fast monk to run until the spell runs out(which will take exactly 24 seconds) or use sling of everard(remember, +5 enchanted weapons can still be used hit the mage) for the duration. ah well, ive rambled on enough, time to go to sleep. just wanted to make my point, which is: the monk is an insanely powerful class!
Yes, I have. In 3 of my parties, as a matter of fact. And, Monks can't be Improved Hasted. Improved Haste + Critical Strike > Greater Whirlwind. Please don't say that you need a Mage to cast Impoved Haste. I haven't had a party yet that had fewer than 2 Mages, which is more than enough to Improved Haste your entire party. They only get 4 attacks per round (dunno how many times I've had to say that), but 1-20 damage with only 4 attacks per round can be matched in damage done by Improved Haste. PfMW... Yeah, you're really going to eat away at the Stoneskin with 1 attack per round. Uh-huh. 'Naturally super fast Monk'. Sure. Tell that to my Improved Hasted Fighter wearing the Boots of Speed. Monks aren't that great, simply because of the darn fact that they are premanently Free Action'ed (which, may I add, doesn't work against the Mimic Glue -_-; . But if they weren't, then yes, I agree that they would be insanely powerful.

The thing about GW is that it only lasts one round, while Improved Haste can easily reach 2 turns, which is 20x longer. And, you only sacrifice 3 attacks per round. Oh no...

just have to slip in this: sling of everard/regular sling+GW and youll be eating 10 layers during GW's duration(providing, of course, you hit with each hit). ah well, enough of this. the monks ARE a very powerful class(not the most powerful, mind you! any HUMAN CONTROLLED sorc, fighter/mage or any other powerful combo with a spellcaster in it can kick a monks butt.), theres no denying that, period

You see,
my sister stopped playing (the first game) at the first guy that comes out and attaks (In the first area). She always died and never killed him.
Now, I wanted to ask you what class should she choose... I thought a fighter, a mage (or priest), or even a thief (although your first companion is Imoen).
The problem is that she wants to be a female, and that's probably why she continued dying (cause she's week, and fragile).

well, for newbies, i recommend her to play a 'fighter like' character (best of is the barbarian for its extra constitution, means more life), cause playing a fighter is the most easiest one compared to another.u dont have to be puzzled to choose or memorize spell, to now what 'this' kind of spell is for.in a simple line :fighters just needs u to fight and walk, fight and walk and fight and walk.but yes, later in the game (after playing several times, u can play yer fighter in various ways, such as dualling it, or multi-ing it.anyway, have fun

Personally I would recommend a paladin to her (you get most of the fighter bonuses, high str, extra hp's for con, massive attack bonuses, weapon specialization but not mastery etc...) Cavalier is quite good, with several sweet immunities, with their only drawback being the lack of missile weapons, you'll also get to experiment with spells on a level more in line with BG1 (ie not starting out choosing lots of spells like a mage or cleric) and that helps you familiarize yourself with them more.

and as long as your rep stays above 8 (IIRC) you won't lose your class.

This has no effect on the game, females are just as good as males in BG.

not all paladins lack missle weapons! only cavaliers.

Can a female be a paladin???

I think anayway that the best class to start with is a fighter, then once finished Baldur's, you can try starting with an other tipe of character.

The first time I played I didn't know about "level up" (My uncle, who played BG told me about it), and I played almost till the end of the game without levelling up; as soon as I leveled up I felt so powerful that finishing the game got very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very easy!!!!
