I might have convinced my sister to try BG and I wanted to try having her to make a monk as a character.

What can you tell me abut monks http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon5.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon5.gif http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...cons/icon5.gif

It is the same all over again. Do a search on monk. But it is like this:
-on the beggining they are weak
-after level 15 they become gods.

Espeically if you have ToB installed.

Monks are a poor choice for a first character, as they are very weak in the beginning. A pure fighter, or a paladin or ranger might be better. Or a kit/multiclass including a strong fighter component.

But if you insist, keep the monk out of melee to begin with, once you start getting the levels up your AC will drop and you should be able to kick ass after level 10 or 11. Not much you can do about melee damage, keep your strength up (and remember monks have no bonuses for CON>16, which frees up some more points for STR) and dont get stuck into a prolonged brawl with something you cant damage much, let the other tanks take care of it.

After level 14, you get MR, and eventualy the monk becomes one of the best mage killers available. With a MR above 100% (needs some equipment to get it that high) a monk will shrug off the majority of magical attacks, although the smarter mages of tactics will use lower resistance and such, or smart targetting to pick on someone more vulnerable. But in the unmodded game, monks rule vs mages.

In the late game of course, the monk is nigh on unstoppable.

I might just try it. But I am a little afraid of Improved Johnny boy.

Why the heck does everyone think that Monks are demi-gods? Hell, in the late game, where they supposedly shines, I'd rather have a Fighter, because late-game is all about killing things as fast as you can, and Improved Haste is vastly superior to Greater Whirlwind. Mages, if you kill them fast enough, won't have a chance to test out your MR.

A nitpick:give me a high level Sorcerer and Monk is dead. Really.
Even with his MR i have PfMW(it stacks),skull traps, lower resistance CC bombs,Dragon`s Breath...

still gimme a monk and
ill kick some mage ass
( then gimme a mage for defense spells
and i kick some more mages ass ) :D :D

</font>
True, but you are using tactics that cant easily be described in infinity script, and certainly were not implemented in unmodded SoA.

have you ever tried a monk? certainly sounds like you havent. "I'd rather have a Fighter, because late-game is all about killing things as fast as you can", not sure what your point here is. the monk can, after all, easily get 5 APR, and at levels 15+, the monks deal 1-20 damage PER HIT!(plus strenght damage i believe)ok, so the ac isnt the best possible, but its good enough. against mages who use PfMW, switch to a regular sling or darts and missle away, possibly eating away his stoneskin aswell. quivering palm has a good chance to kill on hit(if your gonna use improved haste, which requires a mage, the mage can cast greater malison to significantly increase the possibility of the killing blow), not to mention the handy stunning blow. GW is good as well, since it sets the APR to 10, which means there wont be much of the mage(or fighter) left after its done! also, if some wise ass makes a point of a possible absolute immunity, you can either use your naturally super fast monk to run until the spell runs out(which will take exactly 24 seconds) or use sling of everard(remember, +5 enchanted weapons can still be used hit the mage) for the duration. ah well, ive rambled on enough, time to go to sleep. just wanted to make my point, which is: the monk is an insanely powerful class!
