I've never soloed myself but just to add to Olorin's point... I believe at some point in the Ranger stronghold quest, if you do it, that a dryad will give you the Moon Dog figurine? It's the same sort of item as kithix, so even soloing with figurines like these and the iron horn, you can get some nice summons going to give your battles a helping boost.

I *accidently* decided that Bodhi and her gang had a fairly good idea and left Drizzt to fight by himself. I took the goods and as soon as I got out of the cripts this big bad mage came up and I handed over the sword. I respawned it twice and he said POOF imprisonment you all die and it was over.....

Create the items when you exit the Graveyard District.

Why is this Melchor guy taking the stuff away? From a story point-of-view, I mean. I haven't heard of him yet in the Salvatore books... I think.

He takes an appearance in the Dark Legacy books. not sure which one, though IIRC, he appears in the third book of the series.

But he appears - he is the Harpell who gives Twinkle and magic horseshoes to Drizzt (Halfling's gem).
Unless I erred, which is quite possible because I don't have the book here.
