Thorgrim, that chapter does apply to your Mage, the part about Clerics does not. Clerics are forbidden by their God to use swords, but Mages are not--they're simply physically incapable. Having a Fighter half will make them able to wield (or dual-wield) a sword, but only if their Fighter half is ACTIVE--not buried halfway through a Dual. You must reactivate your first class to use your first class's abilities.
