Personally, I've found that a lvl 19 fighter / lvl 1 Rogue is optimal for my tank setup. All you then have to do is decide if you want to go down the dual wield or weapon & shield paths.

One of the most skillful is the Monk, he is almost a god in level 20 , feats and skills are he's greater weapons and armors,of course with a lot of restrictions, but the Sorcerer is great, you can cast a spell for 2 to 6 times without resting, of course you haven't so many spells as a wizard and you can choose them as you level up and until you level up again you can't change them.

Well, I took a druidess through with few troubles.
Actually, a rogue is very handy, but if you prefer not to play the rogue class (I don't particularly) spend a few skill points on skills such as pick lock and disable trap. Not as good as a full-fledged rogue, butusually sufficient. ANY class you enjoy is the best one to play, though. Do what I do and try one of each

In many of these types of games, I have traditionally played a Paladin first time through. The Paladin is, to me, a nice blend of skilled warrior and spellcaster, and at higher levels you get to turn undead almost as well as a Cleric. Also a Paladin is not easily fooled by many of the NPC's in the game because of the ability to detect evil. Also I enjoy being the noble knight-in-shining armour type. Evacuation complete.

I haven't heard anyone championing the Bard yet. Since I won't have the game until I upgrade my video card sometime after Xmas I'll have to just ask the question: Do Bards come up that badly in NWN?

I don't know about the bard, to be honest I have never played one in any game...is that right?...yes, that seems a bit odd, doesn't it? Oh well, maybe someone can tell me why I SHOULD play a bard?
Actually I was thinking of restarting with an evil Monk/Sorcerer. Normally, of course, you cannot take another class as a Monk w/o loosing the ability to advance as a Monk, but if you pick this certain subclass of Monk (evil only...*sigh*) then you can do it. What does everyone think? I think it would ROCK!!!!!(lawful evil by the way hard to play lawful evil...very tough indeed)

Played through with a half orc barbarian first time, and found that I pretty much plowed through everything towards the end.
Right now I'm trying a half orc barbarian/druid as a shaman if you will. I always wanted to try a sorceror or mage, but I found in BGI (mage only) and BGII I kept getting my a@@ handed to me early on in the game and found it very difficult to progress in levels. I don't know, maybe I didn't have the right spells?

I'm not very far (since my computer is a pile and I only get to play when I go to my friend's house), only chapter one, but my elf wizard kicks major arse. Spells fly about quite liberally, and with the elf bonus weapon proficiencies I can hold my own decently if it comes down to a physical fight (I can whip out my bow when I run out of spells or if I'm really desperate I can use a longsword when necessary). Of course, I've always like wizards in most of these types of games.

Yeah, Animal, in BGI and BGII I discovered that having a Mage, or Sorcerer as my main character was just more trouble than it was worth. Anybody play all the way through like that? Kudos if ya did, 'cause I just didn't have the stomach for all the times I got my Mage deboweled, decapitated, etc.
