Try to search the homepage of the camera manufacturer for a new driver. It often happens that the drivers on enclosed CD's are 'ver 1.0' (meaning filled with bugs).

Good luck with your camera/PC/WinXP

I don't really understand how people manage to mess up their computers and "completely destroy" their windows systems! I've been running windows for years (3.1 then 95 then 98 and now 2000)and never had any problems beyond a few crashes and I do experiment with loads of software. In fact I mess around with the system much more than most people, have 3 OS's installed right now and they all work fine. I think it just comes down to whether you know what you;re doing or not. Sorry no help Stormy, just a random rant

I did not do it the driver deleted the system file, it came up with a warning, when I tried to stop installation, it crashed, when I tried to restart, it said that the windows/system32 file is either missing or corupt, and it did give me the stop installation window

Drivers don't go around deleting system files. Maybe it was replacing it with an updated version and was interrupted by another process - not quite sure. If you know which system file is corrupt you should be able to get it from the windows CD, maybe even off the web. Otherwise, you should have a system emergency repair disk which the windows installation suggested you make. Use that to restore system files.

I know what you mean! Always thought a webcam would be cool, but have to do other stuff first. Need a bigger bed, I'm getting married next spring! and the car needed some work.

Sorry yours is messing up on you, SM. I agree with Vaskez, though..it's not usual for a driver to delete a necessary OS file.

Stormy,
Is it possible that your hardware (video card, memory, etc) is not up to spec with what the camera needs? That could cause some problems (but not the missing files).
Do a virus scan before trying to install the drivers to make sure that your computer's clean. Then I'd suggest trying to download the drivers from the company's website rather than your CD, and see if that helps.
