You must have had a good PH in your tap water Capt. Obvious then. And of course having such a small tank also is easier than a larger one, as the goldfish stay a certain small size.

I had 10 tanks at once years ago (sizes of tanks ranged from 3 gallon, to 10, to 20, to 30, to 55), with all sort of different fish. I learned a LOT about fish. And water PH was one thing I noticed was a very important thing re maintaining a healthy fresh water tank to where the fish thrive and live long. Goldfish are no doubt extra hardy, like catfish, and can take and live through bad water quality and such, whereas other species of fish would die right off the bat.

Either way, if you want a fish that is a fresh water one, and entertaining to watch, get a couple of African Chiclids, which are intelligent and not dumb as rocks

I just came home to my own apartment after living two months at my dads house, just to notice a peculiar odour emanating from the shower drain. Must be stagnant water.

Stagnant water... or perhaps it's a snake that got in there and died... or perhaps a swamp muck coming up to join you in the shower

Drain cleaner can do wonders

LadyZ, that's why I eventually stopped keeping goldfish (had some ornamentals that were lovely and lived quite a while!). It was just too much effort to keep the tanks clean and the fish healthy after a while. But then I have a friend who's had one fish in a small tank for years and hardly has to clean it more than the usual water change once a week. I tell her she's got the 'wonderfish' as it doesn't die from the minimal care and seems to be happy enough! LOL

Hmm, maybe it's that 3 second memory- it's not happy but forgets it every 3 seconds?

Anyway, love my cats and I used to like having the fish, but today I think I'd rather have the cats. I can clean the litter box by scooping once or twice a day and once a week I pull everything out (we line the box) and toss it and start over. Not as nasty (to me, anyway!) as cleaning the fish tank used to be. I guess it's a matter of individual taste, though!

I do think my cats would LOVE it if we had fish... but I'm not so sure the fish would like it much! LOL

Yeah, I wouldn't want to put my hand down there. Something might bite it off.

I am sore, tired, and beat. Bruised and broken. Football season is rough. We've been doing two-a-days all week, early morning and late evenings. Real hot days and I'm just really tired. Been trying to get as much sleep and food as possible to stay rested up. We had our first "scrimage" today, against each other, our own team. It's kind of a tradition and man I am so sore. At the end of practice, our head coach, Coach Walkingstick, revealed to us we had gone about 40 minutes longer than scheduled, because we were so worked up and excited about it that it didn't bother us. I don't think any of us really noticed eithe. We actually got better and stronger throughout the scrimage. We've still got a lot of work to do on both sides of the football, and our kick off and kick off return teams need some work too.

I'm still really excited about the season. How's everyone else doing?

Yeah, turn out it's just a light cold, I pretty much just have a runny nose. I had fun, the day was sunny, but with some clouds, that was a nice break, because it sometimes got very hot.

SomeGuy, you're more exited about football than I'll ever be! HEHE.. but it's good you guys could do that workout and not even notice the extra time!

Luvian, glad you had fun and the cold didn't spoil it for you.

Stratos, just get a nice breathing mask like they use for construction work.... LOL, maybe that'll help with the unknown odors.
