I'm soloing a blade at the moment, and for some reason, my current charisma seems to have dropped permanently from 15 to 11; I only don't really know how it has happened. As far as I can tell I'm not cursed, diseased or anything similar, and in the character record screen the value assigned to the charisma statistic is white, not red... I'm not wearing any charisma-reducing items, either. I've got the original game, ToB and the most recent official (non-beta) patch installed, no unofficial mods or patches or any of that mumbo jumbo if you're wondering.
So does anyone have a clue as to what could have caused my charisma to drop this severly?

It may be "wild magic"

If not then I dunno

Not really, no... I'm currently in the Underdark, have done only a few of the basic SoA quests before I went to spellhold actually. Haven't gone to Watcher's Keep yet.

Hmmm, sounds like you've been wielding the "Rod of Terror", found in the City Gates. Each hit has a 20% chance of causing a permament loss of 1 point of charisma from the *wielder*

And you may be right, actually, I *have* been using that thing, if only for a few short battles. Mostly because I needed a blunt weapon to do damage at some point, and this was the only non-slashing weapon I was carrying around at that moment (fighting with my fists wasn't really an option, had to do magical damage IIRC). Never really bothered with this item before, never even read the full description. Didn't even know it had such an effect on your charisma; until now, that is.
But anyways, thanks! I think that's the most logical explanation.

No worries . That must be what happened. That rod is a bloody liability! I overlooked it many times, as when I'm rushing through the game, I scroll straight past the description and just look at the stats. You only notice this sneeky little bugger if you read the small print!

Yes, it fooled me as well...
But are there any other permanent ability score draining items in the game that you know of? Or is the Rod of Terror the only one?

I think the Rod of Terror is the only one.

some other things that could cause a bard to lose charisma are, not bathing, developing a stutter (think Khalid), taking a few too many fireballs to the face/Melfs acid arrows to vital spots, also catching a sword/spear/club/staff/etc weapon to the groin for a male character would have... incapacitating results, and I imagine the resulting high pitched voice would lower CHA as well

as for what could do it in-game... that was answered rather well already.

Yeah, the Rod of Terror can lead to some funny scenarios...
Eventually, you'll die, from being too damn ugly to look at.
