From what I understand, there are ways to do the Sir Sarles quest w/out giving him illithium. How? When I tried that once he spotted the fake. How do I do this quest best?
Oh, and what do I do with the illithium? |

This might be a bit strange, but let me give you a little hint:
The priest has a rather advanced taste of art.

More hinting: Doesn't the item description on the lump of illithium alloy say that there's something about it's shade?
Yes, the priest has a VERY advanced taste of art (in relation to the Renaissance period that the Forgotten Realms campaign is set in).

Okay, well I'll figure out what this means tonight, I guess. I haven't bought either the fake illithium or the real illithium yet, as I didn't want to ruin the quest. Aren't I supposed to acquire BOTH???

Well you buy the alloy and acquire the actual illithium in a different manner. And I can think of a pretty good use for the illithium once you've secured it. Ask and I'll gladly tell you.

Ok, here's the deal. Sir Sarles is a spoiled moron who only works in illithium because he cannot stand to think that his work should be smudged by the hands of others. (Illithium can't get dirty due to it's magical properties).
Also the (real) illithium is damn more useful elsewhere. A spoilerish hint: Try to bring the (fake) illithium to the priest after pissing Sarles off. You'll be suprised.

Thanks! Can I kill Sir Sarles and everyone in that house for being stuffy? Anomen might not like it, though, being as I didn't let him commit murder.

Make sure that you do not have the real illithium on you when you talk to Sir Sarles, or he WILL take it. Stash it in a container somewhere before you talk to him.
The real illithium and the Mace of Disruption can be forged by Cromwell into a very nice undead killing weapon. Like Inde said, when Sarles leaves in a huff, bring the fake illithium back to the priest that gave you the mission. [ 02-03-2003, 12:38 PM: Message edited by: Desuma Malevois ]
