There is nothing inherently un-American in believing the state should own everything. Unwise, certainly, but not un-American. Capitalism/Socialism/Communism are simply points on a sliding scale measurement of how intertwined the government and private enterprise are.
If you want to be technical, we are not pure Capitalists in America. We are, in fact socialist in many ways. Now, saying that will be considered UnAmerican by many, but the truth is the truth. When the government collects roughly 30% of its peoples' money and has many nationalized industries, including several institutionalized monopolies (like the Post Office), it is socialism, albeit a lesser degree of socialism than, say, Norway. |

Wow! That was great TL. I had an argument with a guy about this once. He was very redneckish (is that ok), and was mostly talk, but refused to see exactly what you just stated. The Post office is the best example.

Well, 4 decades back it would be VERY UN - American (4 political reasons though). Maybe not today. But I can't say for sure.
Oh, and Kasrl Marx made a great idealogy in terms of society but the problem was that he forgot to include GREED.

No it's not Un-american to believe in communism, but it's been tries a multitude of times here ...all ended in failure. Even China has moved to a market economy. They are heavy communist in the political arena.

It has some good sides but has never really been implied properly... Perhaps Pacifism is more the way to go?

To me there has been only one successful communist government. Its dead except in memory. What I am talking about is the Native Americans, how they lived before their culture was eradicated by us. If you look at Communism, they share everything as a whole, which is what many of the Native American did in their villages, nothing belonged to the individual person but to the whole village.
The only reason for Communism to be unamerican (decades ago) was that russia was temporarily a democracy, but then communism got a hold of it and due to radicals and protecting the world for democracy and such. Thats why the united states didn't like it.
