'ello all, your Random Story Guy is here, with a question, or ten.

Anywhat, I'm going to make a paladin. I just Alt-Tabbed out of the character creation scene, so here are his stats:
Class: Inquisitor
STR: 16
DEX: 15
CON: 16
INT: 9 (2+2= 1!!!)
WIS: 15
CHA: 18

** in 2H Longsword style
** 2H Longsword
* Flail/Axe
* Sword and Shield Style

So, now my questions are this:
I know 2H Sword is a good choice, but what other weapon, I'm at a deadlock between:

Flail
Axe

I'd probably put 1 in those and one in Sword/Shield style.

Second question:

How would I solo this guy? (Might want to do that)

And since your here, I need some help on math, what's 5x^2-99x+ 16?

well Paladins are proably the easiest fighter class to solo w/ because they eventually get some spells and can heal. although Inquisitors are proably the worst of the kits. Eventually you'll get a 2h sword that you should ignore most other weapons for. It's a fairly early quest, too. Flails are a better class in bg2 but your proably better giving the good ones to someone else. To solo simply don't accept anyone else in your party. Really play the game however you want. If you want to take imoen take her. If you want a romance take one. If you want the purest solo, kick imoen out right away and don't let anyone else in.

well there's not a ton of undead but theres enough so that your skills won't go to waste. The immunity to hold and level drain will come in very handy. their only drawback is no lay hands(not a big deal). If you don't want to use ranged the cav is really good too. lotsa bonuses and if you weren't planning on using ranged weapons anyway it's no loss at all. Suggestion on your stats Pump them as high as possible. Paladins are a type of fighter so you get bonuses for con above 16, dex gives ac bonuses and only fighters are capable of getting strength above 18 w/out magic. I'm not sure but i don't think theres any reason to have higher than the lowest wisdom for a paladin.

I'm assuming that entire equation is equal to zero.
If so the answer is x=.16295732781
It may be a few decimals off...but im sure your teacher wont mind.
Plug it into the equation and it should come to about zero.

There are actually two values for x that will work.

The way to answer the question is as follows.

If we say the formula has the form:
a*x^2 + b*x + c

Then
a = 5
b = -99
c = 16

Using these values for a, b, & c, and the following formula. (+- means plus or minus, you should get two vales for x, one where you put a plus there, the other where you put a minus there.)
x = [-b +- SQRT(b*b - 4 * a * c)] / (2 * a)

We can get two values for x.
x = 99/10 +- SQRT(9801 - 320)/10
x = 9.9 +- SQRT(9481)/10
x = 9.9 +- 97.37042/10
x = 9.9 +- 9.737042
x = 0.162957... [OR] 19.647042...

First of all, Angelouss, I don't get what you mean by check out the end of the first post...are you refering to the smiley?

And yes Seraph...you are correct..there are two possible answers to the equation.
The final answer actually should not be put in decimal form. Well, my teacher wouldnt accept it.
He would want it with the sqaure roots still there as a fraction.
But it was late at night and I'd rahter put the deciamls in.
As for the second answer...I just totally forgot about the negative...damn quadratic equation....what am I saying it has saved my life many times.
Good job.

Fraction forms if you need it:

99 +- SQRT(9481)
-------------
10

It all depends on the form the teacher wants it in.
This is what my precalculus teacher always says to leave it in.
