Spoilers
` ` ` Imoen has returned. I have two save games. In one I send her packing. In the other, I send Mazzy packing. Here's my party: Me (Fighter/Thief Dual) Mazzy Jaheira Viconia Valygar Nalia and/or.... Immy Advice? I felt I was too magic-weak, plus I had a ring of acuity that I have no use for and a few other goodies to tool up immy. Help Pls. Oh - and please don't post with "X,Y, and Z suck - go pick up A and B and give them the whammy +3 and whack-a-mole +4" I've chosen this party, with the noted exception, and I'm likely sticking to it - it's only my 2nd time thru and I want to role-play with some fresh faces. I would take Imoen over Mazzy - I've always found the "Mazzy is the closest thing to a halfling paladin" lin annoying enough to dump her.
Additionally, from a roleplay standpoint, at least if your a good party, which would you take, some random halfling lass, or your half-sister? From an effectiveness standpoint, Imoen is a decent mage - Mazzy might be a good fighter, but there are better.

I think I agree. I was getting tank heavy. Yeah, they're mid-tanks, but I'm looking at my F/T (AC -5), Valygar (AC -4), Jaheira (AC -9), and Viccy (good AC too) all being able to assist the front line. I was just finding she was pulling out the bow more and more - which Immy can do too. Funny, last game Immy had SotM, but this game I think I'll let Nalia keep it.

I would stick with Imoen. Once you get Imoen pretty powerful she makes for a very powerful mage. Not only that but you kill two birds with one stone with Imoen because she has enough levels of theif to be able to open any lock or disarm any trap you may come across in the game. There's also the roleplaying standpoint in which you wouldn't go all that way to pick up Imoen and then just dump her for an anonymous NPC. Thats my opinion.

Does that mean you would always end the game with Immy? How many out there kick Immy out?

I, for one, never take her along any longer. Simply because I dislike her. Heck, I've never liked her, I've hated her since the time I took of from Candlekeep! Well, hating is not the word, but I've atleast never been any comfortable with that little brat. |

If you are good, especially if you are Lawfully Awfully Good, you would be in a real bind trying to leave her behind. You could even lose your alignment, loose Ranger or Paladin status, however, this is not implemented in game.
For role playing reasons, if you are good, you really should take her. At least get her to the safety of civilization and get her out of the Underdark and leave her in the Copper Coronet or something. If you are evil however... My Evil Incarnate Halfling Stormlord smashed her brains out with the Flail of Ages after he found out she was a Bhaalspawn. He wants the power promised, and, she was sorta in the way. It was Viccy's fault really, she once asked what I would do if I met one of my "siblings" and my reply was simple. "I would kill them." |

If it's a choice between Mazzy and Imoen, I concur with the "Drop Mazzy" vote, as you've got enough Tanking power already, and one solitary Mage, without backup, just isn't enough in my opinion.
However, I would sooner drop Valygar than Mazzy: You've got enough Tanks, yes, but Mazzy is your only pure Tank: Valygar, Jaheira, Viconia and your F/T are better used for backup. Unless you really love Backstabbing, I would send the Ranger home.

I guess I'm going from the flip-side of the coin.
I'd keep Mazzy, then take in Imoen and kick out Valygar. Reason being that Mazzy pretty well outperforms Valygar in any combat front. She makes a great sniper if you feel tank heavy, but she can tank with the best if you threw her in front and stuck Viconia or Jaheria in the back with a sling. I actually prefer to take mazzy and begin specializing her in 2-handed weapons so she won't be limited to short swords or the short bow. There are a wide variety of great 2-H swords and halberds out there, and she does ridiculously well with them. With the exception of a few npcs, nobody handles combat better then mazzy (except of course, a melee intensive PC) Norbane |
