An email circulating:

Quote:
Quick call to the White House

The president has put out a request for feedback about war
with Iraq; here's how--it's easy, and it may count for something:

GWB's Whitehouse Opinion Line: 202-456-1111 9-5 EST., Monday thru Friday.

Please call if you have a minute. A machine will detain you for only
a moment and then a pleasant live operator will ask what you're responding
to (war in Iraq) and thank you for saying "I oppose" or "I approve."

The president has said that he wants to know what the American people
are thinking. Let him know. Time is running out.

I think that if it was that important to the president he would make it a toll free number.

Honestly, I do not know if that is a real number or not.

From how I took it you call someone in the "white house." Check the area code to see if it's even in the DC area... I bet it to be a hoax

According to Snopes.com, that IS a legitimate phone number for the public to call and make comments concerning Presidential policy. However, it is not set up specifically to solicit opinion on the War Against Iraq...it is the same General Opinion line the White House has used for years.

People, I'll just say this: The Whitehouse/FBI/NSA/Whatever may or may not have a file on you right now. But if you call into the Whitehouse uninvited on a line that you're not sure of, you can be Pretty D_mn Sure that they'll start one on you right then and there.

Think of it this way: If there was a door in a dungeon that was locked, trapped and glyphed...and when you reach it, your DM takes his workingpapers, puts them face down on the floor, looks you in the eye and says "I'm telling you. There Is No Way For Your Character To Open That Door. Period." without even Looking at the stats, would you still try to open it...?
