On the matter of insanity, insanity is lack of reason. These guys had logical orchestrated plans. They were not randomly chaotic. They have a detailed worldview which supports their actions given that perspective.
The key is to challenge that worldview, not to wage more war as Djinn cynically postulated  To give information. Challenge misinformation and ignorance.
