i dont remember having trouble here. i said i was just leaving and quickly cast hold person on him, b4 he could get his magical defefenses up. i hit hard and fast and he died quickly.

Remember, 'Stoneskin' has no effect on magical spells, so cast a 'Secret Word' and you can eat away at him no problem with a few simple spells.

Remember, a mage can't have both Protection from Magical Weapons & Protection from Non-magical Weapons up at the same time.

Not true.
Just because enemy Mages don't do it doesn't mean you can't.
You can store PfMW & PfNW in Spell Trigger together. Firing the Trigger on yourself will causes the effects to stack. Same goes to Chain Contingency.
