Not a sport where a person's physical ability is the point. OR a team where the team combination is the point.
Actually your pretty far from the mark. Tailgating at 180 mph does take quite a bit of driving skill Also the pit crews can make or break a driver. If the pit crew sucks you WILL lose the race.

Personally I have never been in to NASCAR, but my Dad is. So when I am hanging out with him I watch the races. His favorites are Dale Ernhardt jr and Tony Stewart.

Of what significance is any sport? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's insignificant.

The reason it's "still around" isn't because of the money it brings to the "southern economy", it's still around because millions and millions of people enjoy it. I'm not saying it's not making money, but NASCAR wouldn't make a dime without fans, and those fans are from every area of our nation and from every socioeconomic group.

NASCAR's roots are certainly southern, but the days when NASCAR racing was just a southern "thang" died in the last generation.

***Lord of Alcohol, I started pulling for Jeff Gordon for a very similar reason! So many people just hate him....he has to be doing something right...lol
It's just a matter of opinion. I am more of a combination person, as in I like to see different things more often than less. Cars driving around for 4 hours, crashes being the only highlight of the day, is not something I could bear. Something I do enjoy, skateboarding, is almost the same thing. Most people miss the point of the sport, while I see pure skill. I never stereotype with sports, so saying it is a southern sport is misleading; I merely said it is a boost on the southern economy. My opinion and I'm sticking to it

It's certainly a boost to the southern economy, but NASCAR isn't just on southern tracks anymore...

NASCAR boosts the economy in Michigan, California, Texas, Nevada, etc...

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy
I'm happy if JG never wins another WC race.
Consider this: North Carolina about 3 or 4 years ago was like 49th in the nation regarding its educational level. NASCAR is BIG down here.
