They don't now...
You have a point, but at least they see some of it. Imagine if all they got were government propoganda about how much we were winning.
we already do. News only tells us what it's ALLOWED to tell us. it gets its info from people who DECIDE what "truths" the press can hear

I don't think that's completely true, CNN is independant and reports what it sees, so also the downsides.

Without the newspaper the church would still be the head authority over all governmental operations and we'd be living in the dark ages, un able to spread news and information around because anything of change or progress would be denounced, Einstein, Edison, all of our greates scientst would be burned like in Salem. The entire would would be greatly damaged, communication would be in only between people via mail which could take years at a time to cross continents. We wouldn't know of flying machines or automobiles or products to buy or use, we'd all be living in our own little world within a houshold and would follow the orders given to us by preists as if they were orders from god himself. The printing press would only be used to make more bibles. And America would deffinetly be under the controll of the Empire of England, seeing as it was a newspaper which inspired any sort of "independence" declaration...

If right now newspapers ceased to exist, the internet would become the most profitable enterprise in existance (if it hasn't already done that yet) with Advertising and all...

you're wrong dk.the church lost it's control over the monarchies long before the arrival of newspapers.but there probably never would have been an american revolution.and that is because so much of the incitement against the brits came from the newspapers.
