LOL, Mel, I saw an article in Consumer Reports a long time ago that said exactly that- shampoos are basically the same ingredients - at least the ones that cleanse the hair are all same or very similar! All the other stuff in them is fluff or fragrance!

As for makeup, around here it's more like Mel described. Wearing makeup is a personal choice, some do, some don't. And I think it's only an 'issue' if you work someplace like a bank or other professional area. As for me, I do wear a foundation to work most days, sometimes blush and sometimes eyeshadow or lipstick but not much else and often only one or two items at any given time.

I've gone to the grocery store or church or even the mall without makeup on. I just prefer to wear it if I plan to be out and about much. [img]smile.gif[/img] I don't wear it on weekends and am not one of those 'must touch up in mid-day' types'. I do appreciate looking and feeling my best, as most of us do so if it helps to dress or make up, then so be it. I'd never consider a woman shallow just for wearing foundation of lipstick!

It's not a replacement.
I guess the reason is like Cloudy said, women found garter belts bothersome (but nowadays you have stayups so that argument doesn't hold anymore) and because a lot of women wore skirts back then, they needed to cover their legs with something else than trousers, both for warmth and decency. That's my guess anyway

Bringing men into the makeup discussion points out that it's not really a makeup discussion but a beauty and cosmetology discussion. I, of course, don't wear makeup. However, many men in the 21st Century do lots of things we didn't twenty years ago. I pluck the bridge of hair between my eyes, and I have for years. I put on under-eye cream and moisturizer, once in a while, when my wife makes me. What about Rogaine? Male Beauty products have been one of the fastest-growing industries in the last decade, I read.

It comes down to self-image and caring what you look like. Plastic boobs may not turn you on, but certainly there are less-drastic upkeep measures that enhance the way others view us and the way we view ourselves. It's a very individual thing, and people just need to realize what works best on them individually.

IMHO, caked-on makeup (I admit, oft worn by women in the south, from where I hail) looks like a sad attempt to be what one is not. On the other hand, a few subtle touches and colors on one's face can make all the difference. Again, it's personal. My wife is lucky enough to have long eyelashes (that fall out and annoy her by getting in her eyes all the time). Thus, no eye-liner, ever. But, she wears lipstick, as it looks really good on her.

What about body glitter makeup? I see it at clubs all the time. I think it looks cool - on girls.

Ok, so panties and hose, why is it so important for them to be "breathable"?

Panty hose are utilized for many reasons in today's society...for altering the color of one's legs (white women love this reason lol) and making them appear just generally healthier; for support in jobs where women are on thier feet all day (i.e. nurses); for extra support and to hide varicose veins and other unsightly effects aging and habits (leg crossing) can have on some women; just to add more sexy to sexy (stockings and garter belts and the stay ups); to coordinate a professional look to include the legs (black or navy stockings with a power dress/suit to match); to keep from having to wear socks with a suit and dress shoes(knee highs); oh the list probably goes on but I can't add to it from here as I have reached an idealistic dead-end when it comes to panty hose

Panty hose were invented by a woman, believe it or not. I forget exactly who, but I think it was a President's wife who, when pregnant, could not do the garter and stockings thing. So, she sewed the stockings to her underwear. And thus began a long and brutal relationship between women and their leggings.

I like body glitters on younger women! Some girls I go to school with wear it during the day as well...its not bad in daylight either when combined with the right outfits (goth or a toned down "princess" kind of look is all I can say I have ever seen of body glitters at school. [img]smile.gif[/img]
