Have any of you played Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, Witchaven, Witchaven II or Wheel of Time (based on the Unreal engine)? If so, how about sharing your thoughts and experiences?

Well, yeah, I suppose they do, why not? Though I have to say Thief (and presumably Thief II as well, though I haven't tried it) seems a bit frustrating. You have to sneak around, make sure no one can see you, wait to snipe down foes, etc... Well, guess it's just me.

Yeah, well, Thief 1&2 are kinda slow - paced games, not really a Quakers game eh? lolz, but still, games like that do make you think more and are fun if you like sneaking around in the dark, and if you get a deep satisfaction when you wipe out the whole map without ever being seen hehe...
Fantasy 1st persons are good, they usually have a great atmosphere, Alien VS Predator 1 for example...(If it counts as fantasy 1st-P) Though AvP2 wasn't as good I thought creepiness-wise.

I really liked Thief 2. I'm the type of bloke who enjoys crazy FPS like Quake, with rockets flying everywhere, bullets spitting by and having to jump over grenades. So at first, I thought I would hate Thief games.

WRONG! I played Deus Ex, and I LOVED the stealth. I loved creeping around people instead of killing them. I loved knocking people out instead of gibbing them. I liked clinging to the shadows. So after completing Deus Ex, I knew I would love Thief 2, and I did. (Never played Thief 1, though.)

So there you go. Even if you are a hardcore deathmatch style player (like me), I think you should still give Thief 2 a go.

I also liked Hexen 2. I thought it was fun. I used the Necromancer. I loved his evil looking staff and spell book.

I reckon Aliens vs Predator would be science fiction rather than fantasy...

Really enjoyed the three Serpent Rider games, Heretic, Hexen and Hexen II by Raven Software. In fact I still have them on my PC! Beautifully crafted levels/environments, lots of toys to collect and use, breathtaking weapon and magic effects... Hexen was terrifying, though, with all its crusher traps and death falls...

I liked Hexen II as well! The necromancer's 'Magic Missiles' and 'Bone Shards' spells were both fun. I actually altered the source code of Hexen II in various ways, so that the messages got edited along the lines of 'You just got hold of a pretty little healing vial', the magic rings lasted much longer, healing vials did more healing, the skull wizard had a female voice , your character made various comments in various situations (like Duke Nukem), and the necromancer had a distinct voice all his own (borrowed from Shadow Warrior's Lo Wang ). Customising games is real fun.

Did you play the Hexen II add-on Portal of Praevus, Grimslade?
