Options after the final battle in BG? (Spoiler)

This is my first time through the game. I'm trying to win the final battle against Savorek and Company (2 re-starts so far).

Here are my questions:

1. Am I correct to assume that after I kill Savorek, I'll be able to go back and complete the side quests that I skipped the first time around?

2. Will the damn guards finally get off my back and let me walk the streets of Baldur's Gate unfettered?

No and no. The game ends when the big boy bites it, and those dumb knucklehead Flaming Fisters can't seem to get it into their heads that you're the good guy.

Two options: 1) Backtrack and try to find all the side quests you ignored, including visiting every building in Baldur's Gate while being annoyed by the Fist; or 2) Take what you know of the game and build a new character. I'd go with Option 2.

Options 2 is probably the best. I didn't explore Baldur's enough before I upset the FF (and I don't mean the Fantastic Four). After that, it was a real trial to prevent my team killing civilians and soldiers alike, and every time I turned around...there was another soldier. How can people like Sarevok and the Iron Throne operate in that city? It's wall-to-wall cops in there.

Thank you for the knowledge SixOfSpades and Lord Brass. Though, I'm truly disappointed by the answers.

I don't much care for the idea of starting over, so I'll probably move immediately to BG2 (and work a little more slowly through it).

Well, you could just run away. RUn to the hills. Go explore, ignore the FF, and do that. Yes its annoying, but better luck next time. Hey, look on the Bright side, ur almost done. I think the FF stop hounding you once you go to the Duchal Palace, cuz it happened with me, i think cuz you saved the dukes life, so he puts you as innocent.

When you will save Duke and his Lady FF guards stop tracking you. It could be nice if they started to track Sarevok, but it is your job.
