I think you should have started this thread in a different forum instead, but oh well. I really liked the (unedited) version of the novel, but still haven't seen the movie. I'll see if I can pick it up one of these days. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Saw The Stand mini-series years ago (or is it a decade yet ? [img]smile.gif[/img] ) . Cant't quite recall a lot of scenes from there.... just that I loved "The Devil" scene where he was whistli'n Sympathy for the Devil.
I was having a couple of insomnia fueled nights recently and SK's Storm of the century & It mini-series with a touch of Alien I-IV were my best friends then [img]smile.gif[/img]

It has everything to do with hygiene!
Rats are attracted by rubbish - waste food, animal feed, human waste, etc. The Greeks and Romans were quite hygienic in that they disposed of their waste carefully and had plumbing and pipes. Whereas those that came after the Romans just tended to dump their waste in the streets, thus attracting rats to their settlements and homes.
