Your meant to come back later in the game, hence the wardstone. Your never forced to fight any of the dragons in the early stages of the game because they are too strong for most people. Come back at level 13/14 you should be able to take him without much trouble.

DSlaytern] SG, this is the third time I have caught you swearing already. You should know by now that it is not allowed in this forum. Consider this a caution, cheers.

You can return later. You need not the wardstone if you are about to face the dragon directly. You can do it after a proper preparation and at a reasonable level.
The wardstone will allow you only one thing: approach the dragon without disturbing it and gain a little advantage from the first attack. That's all. Another thing is if you are about to use some cheddar-like method of fighting dragons. Therefore:
- Cheat back the wardstone it you are about to go cheezy.
- Put the wardstone out of your head if you want a direct fight.

Killing the shadow dragon was the peoudest moment in the game for me up till that point. I moved past the dragon first and killed the shadow lord (very easy) and then saved and thought it wou;d be fun to try my hand at the dragon (i had passed on the fight with the red dragon earlier)

My character is a monk, at the time level 11
I had Nalia, Jahiera, Minsc, Arie, Anomen (can't spell their names but you know who I mean)

The first time I had him on the ropes, all my characters except Jaheira and me where left and the dragon was reading at near death, then i was killed and had to reload, that inspired me to try again.

second go i summoned more animals and skeletons (to take out some spells) and set Arie and Nalia well back casting spells ( i wrote down a sequence for them so I would remember), I had my monk, minsc and Anomen (with barkskin, blessed, harmony and speed spells cast on them) all move in for different sides with Jahiera set in support where it was needed (healing, more blessing or summoning or hit a few times if needed, she ended up not doing much really i find her a very weak even loaded up with top of the line gear) I kept hitting one character died but I got him, it was all about the strategy.

I'm nearly finished with my first complete game, I'll post my thoughts soon.

I go cheesy and plant traps all around him, then throw a few fireballs at him!!Hey, I think if you can do it in real life, it's only fair!

Think, in real life, could you plant traps all around him with the Wardstone Held? I think so!!!
