I notice all the posts opposing this issue are still calling it "to run or control 6 US Ports" and refuse to even attempt to undertand that the relationship between a "terminal" and an entire "port" is basically equal to a "store" vs an entire Mall but then taking over 6 ports just reads so much better and makes it seem so much more critical don't you agree??

The fact that now we are talking about "ties to the White House" makes me gag almost as much as the liberal media never mentioning the Vice President in relationship to any Iraq situation without adding "Former Halliburton Chief" or something similar to his name.

Just another day of politics as usual - suppress the truth and lay on the rhetoric...

Not the poster's ignorance, merely the media sensationalizing the issue.

Evidently the UAE harbors this guy, Viktor Bout, an international arms dealer with alleged former ties to the Taliban and Al Queda:

The takeover has just been approved by the High Court in the UK.

Leave it to the Brits to be sensible - maybe we should learn something from them here.

Maybe this is why Bush wants line-item veto power. He'd have to veto spending for our troops and for hurricane relief in order to defeat the block on the foriegn government deal. In a time of war and while the President is in an epic political quagmire, I just cannot image that happening.

http://www.forbes.com/business/feeds...ap2577707.html

EXCERPT:

House Republican leaders on Tuesday embraced legislation that would block a Dubai-owned company from taking over operations at several U.S. ports, brushing aside a veto threat from President Bush.

"We believe that the U.S. should not allow a government-run company to operate American ports," said Ron Bonjean, a spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

The legislation is expected to reach the House floor next week as part of a $91 billion measure for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and aid for Gulf States recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

*ROFL* as much as I generally hate tacked on riders to a bill that have little to do with the bill itself, I think this idea rocks.

(incidentally non-related items slipping into bills was one of the things expressly forbidden in the CSA's constitution)

Not sure if this is the same story as Chewie posted or not, but some info here.

Morgie - I'm very impressed, I think you're the first Republican I know (apart from those living here) that actually took the 9/11 commission report seriously!

What's the CSA by the way? A google is pulling up Child Support Agency, Canadian Space Agency etc for me...
