I think the judge should - it's far more pragmatic and if it resulted in more 'gut spilling' and subsequent arrests of guys higher up then I'm all for it.

If the law is wrong, than so is the punishment.

Murder in the name of drug laws. Another of the millions of victims of abuse of government power, though this victim is headed for the most severe and totally final abuse.

The drug war has always been a big waste, not to mention total failure. How many more futile decades? How many more executions, incarcerations, and property seizures shall we endure all while propping up the very black market and inflated value that drives even more? It's like an unholy beast that feeds itself at the expense of human dignity and liberty.

It's about time someone speaks out against those Singapore dickheads, they can't be sanctioned enough as far as i'm concerned.

Emmm Johnny? Sometimes the action of certain part of the world may not be up to your satisfaction or shall I say standard? But calling them dickheads isn't called for. AFAIK there are Singaporeans in this board.

Also, sanctions would devastate Singapore, and kill those who don't deserve death. Would you kill a child over a drug peddler's judgement?

Speaking in personal capacity here. Disregard my status for the moment.

If supporting the death penalty makes me appear to be a dickhead in your opinion, then so be it.

He could have smuggled cigarettes( which, by the way, is quite a big problem here, because hey, you don't swing if you get caught, and dang is it profitable). He could have also smuggled liquor, or pirated DVDs( which any local Singaporean and/or Malaysian will tell you is profitable as well, if you don't get caught that is).

But no. He chose to smuggle heroin. Fine, so he decided to smuggle drugs, but even then, I say again, he chose to smuggle the very drug that has the most extreme penalties over here.

I do not support the drug trade, but I am telling you that he could have taken other options, like esctasy, opium, etc... but heck no, he chose to smuggle heroin.

Or even better, he could have smuggled it to a country that has no death penalty, but what do you know? He chose to smuggle it through Singapore, where we practically stop short of literally beating it into your brains that it is really not a good idea to smuggle drugs in here.

He chose his fate. It is as simple as that.

So yes, I agree with his sentencing.

Well said Dundee - my sentiments exactly. He knew and he chose - case closed, move along people - nothing to see here.

Mind you - I remain opposed to the death penalty on principle, but continue to support the rights of any soveriegn nation to determine their approach to these matters.

Does that mean you also approve of women being stoned to death in Iran, for whatever petty reason they see fit in that country ? After all...Iran is a sovereign nation and it's their approach of certain matters. Or the cutting off of the hands of a person who stole something in Saudi Arabia ?

Those are just as barbaric acts as hanging someone over drugtraficking from my point of view.

And just to clear something up here, my dickhead comment wasn't meant to insult an entire population as Kakero obviously saw in it, but towards the people who uphold the law there. But anyone who supports a law like that isn't much better, it's simply disgusting.
