As far as they can prove that it was him who sent the email and not someone who used his email adress, he might go down, however I do not think that people should be responsible for their actions when they are drunk, for example I have a friend who nearly always sends drunken text messages when he is drunk, but his friends accept him for it and they know he doesn't mean what he says in them.

BTW do they say anything about how he got hold of Bush's email adress?

That is unfortunate as he probably wasn't serious and was just pissed out of his mind at the time. However sending death threats to the leader of another country is pretty serious (probaly more serious then throwing pies at leaders) no matter how unpopular they are. No doubt Bush as ruffled a few feathers outside of the US.

Yes, drunk people should be held accountable especially when they cause property damage or physical harm to another. Although in this case no harm done, maybe Bush will forgive him knowing that he used to drink at one point and probably do stupid things when he was drunk, as have I. But I don't think Bush will see any humour in the guy being drunk and unfortunately the guy may have messed up his life because of it.

Actually from what I`ve heard he actually send it to WithHouse. He was on their website. But c`mon. I`d understand that judge would give him money punsihment but not 2-10 years for God`s sake. Sure I don`t like GWB either but that doesn`t mean that i won`t kill him. I can`t undersand why the judge doesn`t go by the drunken status...

Oh well...

ooh ooh death threat! goto jail, do not pass go etc

when i first read this i thought you meant 'Sure I don`t like GWB either but that doesn`t mean that i would kill him'. the double negaive has thrown me somewhat .

personaly i dont think the guy should be punished at all. IMO bush is overprotected. if the people of the world want him out of office so much he has to have to much protection, he shouldnt be in that job in the first place!

Bush death threat man on trial

A 32-year-old Slovenian has gone on trial for threatening to kill George W Bush during a visit there in 2001.

Tomi Sluga claimed an email he sent the White House in May 2001, two weeks before the Bush visit, was "only meant as a joke".

He is charged with attempting to endanger the life of a person under international protection - a crime listed in Slovenia's Penal Code in the same chapter as genocide and war crimes.

If found guilty, Sluga faces up to 10 years in prison.

"President, save the planet ... We will kill you in Ljubljana!!! Welcome!" Sluga wrote in the email sent to Bush's official White House address.

A few days later, police searched Sluga's house in the village of Crnci in northern Slovenia, confiscated his computer and began investigating.

Legal procedures and their preparations can take months or even years in Slovenia, and the delay before Sluga's trial is not unusual.

The fact that he sent it two weeks before Georgie came to Slovenia makes it a bit worse I think. I doubt that he really meant it though. If it were up to me, if no further evidence was found that he really was planning to do that, he should pay a fine, and maybe spent a couple of days in jail. But not 2-10 years. PS: I bet Bush gets death-threats all the time. So I think this is Slovene law at work, probably with a bit of pressure from Americans, especially since people were completely paranoid then and were checking (without a reason or a permit btw) emails of some people... This was an important meeting (Bush - Putin Summit), so no wonder this freaked them out. It's still silly, though.

No, the dumbass just claimed he was drunk. Not that it matters though, he should get the max. Who cares if he was drunk or not. He threatened to kill someone. Maybe he can give up the booze while he's inside.
