Aha Bloodstalker, another old metal fan puts in an appearance - we are legion here at IW! We seem to exist here in far greater proportion here than in RL for some reason. Although when I was a teen, a lot of my friends who were into metal were also into RPGs - so I expect that explains it!

Alright, and I thought I was alone. Never did I think that anyone would mention Burzum or Emperor (may they rest in peace) on the IWF.

Melusine, I salute you.

Someone on this board actually mentioned a band I *like*? That I would live to see that day...
Anyways, Einstürzende Neubauten is brilliant, especially their last album Silence is Sexy (yes I know they've been active for over a decade... ). The song Sabrina alone could spank all the Muddle of Putts, Creeps and Nickelfags of this world. Now that's one of the few extremely calm songs that is absolutely best if you play it out loud.

lol- I'm not stuck in the past. I listen to a lot of new stuff. I couldn't listen to the same old songs forever without going mad. The new stuff I like tends to go towards the dark electronic sound and industrial, though. I never could stand the whiny side of goth. Coil, probably my favorite band, is making current releases, though they've been around since the days of Throbbing Gristle (one of the members was in TG, actually). Now that I think about it, my other favorite band, Current 93, also revolves around a person (David Tibet) who was in TG. I guess I am an old fogie after all.

No, really- I like many modern groups. My current favorite, Confession of Faith, is so new they don't even have a recording contract yet. How's that for current?

See! Someone else noticed this, too. Why do you think that is? I've always wondered. Not being into metal, I am not qualified to answer.

Hm.. Seems I'm still one of the few Green Day fans around here. I like Linkin Park, and Tweak (from South Africa) as well And dearest Melusinchen: I meant that t-shirt you sent me.. a Green Day vote was the least that I expected from you!

Been noticing it for a while Katherine! Seems every time we talk about music, a whole bunch of us here stand up and reel off pretty much the same list of favorite bands. I can't give a feasible explanation really.

I think that one of the great things about metal music, is that it can actually create an atmosphere. The pop rubbish in the top 40 cannot even dream about the sort of emotional impact and atmosphere that metal bands (ie. Black/Doom/Death/Avantgarde Metal) can achieve.

It is this same atmosphere and fantasy that we seek in RPGs. Another world, another time, another life! Or maybe that's just me!
