I've played through and beaten BG2 and ToB, but i have never even played BG1... Is it still worth getting or will it kinda have "lost its magic" story-wise since ive played BG2???

And, i havent played IWD either, so should i just get that instead since i havent played IWD2??? sorry if this is a bad forum for this but there isnt a BG1 forum.

There is a BG1 forum, use the goto menu in the bottom right.

But its pretty dead compared to here, and you probably dont want spoilers anyway.

I would go for BG1, but if possible get both. Both are excellent, but BG1 is definatly the better of the two. Remember to get all applicable expansion packs.

I've only played the demo of Icewind Dale but it's good. As for Baldur's Gate it's good as well. If I was you and I could afford it I'd buy both.

Well, if you can afford BGII then IWD and BG are probably the price of BGII (I got IWD for 19.99 last week) so If you got a good 40/50$$ then get em both mate

It depends on your gaming style.. BG1 has actual plot and actual sidequests and actual NPCs and a low EXP cap.. In IWD you can cast high level spells but there is hardly any dialogue or plot to speak of, and there are NO NPCs in your party.. All party members are created at the beginning of the game. I hated IWD, because it was just hack and slash and hack and slash and hack and slash and hack and slash and no banter or dialogue. The two different types of basic RP layouts are exhibited in IWD and BG... IWD is akin to a straight line.. there are only a few side quests, but no major ones. BG is like a tree, branching out and such. There's a quest, but it gives you a lot of freedom to explore and do your own thing.

i feel i have to say that BG1 is A LOT worse than BG2 in my opinion. luckily i bought BG1 first, then i bought SoA after a year. but i found that BG1 totally bored me after playing SoA. so if you want my advice, and i'm sure you don't, don't get BG1.

Icewind dale is strictly a dungeon crawl, and while it is very fun, if you loved the addictive plotlines and quest I suggest either BG1 (gameplay is alot rougher than bg2, and there aren't any scroll, potion, bag of holding etc to help organise your inventory) but if you want a truly outstanding try Planescape Torment, I saw it at Walmart yesterday for $10 if you can stay interested through the opening section (where most people I know of who didn't like it, stopped playing) then you'll be in for an amazing treat that will take your breath away.

Go for both! Over here, you can get BG1 and the expansian for £5, which is roughly $7.50 in the US.

Icewind dale is good but it's a bit too linear for me, however it can be great fun at certain points especially when in those massive underground tombs full of undead.
I prefer BG1 however there's more attetion to detail in it,more than enough side quests, much more of a plot and a great range of NPC's to play it with. Also it's worth playing just for the experience of fighting those basilisks, now they were great monsters and I mustn't forget the gravestone which spawns an angry wizard who subsequently spawns a group of strange creature called "Pheonix guards".
