This is odd...
It says somewhere that all times at IW are EST... IIRC EST means Eastern Standard Time... right now i am in ESST or Eastern Standard SUmmer TIme... and so the times @ IW should correspond to what the time on my watch is exept be an hour fast... but they dont. For 1, there a day slow and 2 i posted something at 10 to 12, and in the time zone that IW uses, it was 8:44 AM... Could someone explain to me whats goin on?? |

Umm, that's EST US time.....I know I'm on Central Standard and the time always is 'right'. Your post came in at 8 something am. What time 'your' time did you post?

I think i posted that at about 12:10 last night...
but to be very clear about how the times are mixed up (EST is a standard time zone- something like GMT-9 i think) It is now 10:21 ESST on 15/12/2001. |

They're not mixed up, Sookma. You are on Australian ESST. The forum is on American EST. Thus we are 15 or so hours ahead of forum time

But EST is a time zone... it covers the 4 eastern states of Aus, and any other things that fall in that longitude range (at least)...
So if all times are EST, we should only be 1hour ahead... the country shouldnt make a difference because EST is a specific timezone, GMT-9hours i think... |

*sigh* I'll say it again. We are on Australian EST. The forum is on American EST. Ziroc lives in Florida. Eastern Australia is 15 hours ahead of Eastern USA. Australian EST is a specific timezone. American EST is another specific timezone

quote: I'm pretty sure EST is Eastern Standard Time (US&Canda) which is -5 GMT Australian time would be +9 wouldn't it? It's closer to the international date line.

Actually, Sookma, I think the correct acronym for the time we are on is AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). So where the forum says EST that is not our time, our time is AEST.

Ok... just checked my HOtmail... It says That Sydney Time is EST... so i looked at the options for the US closest match is 'ET'- Eastern Time, and when i checked the time on it it matched up... so either hotmail has its abrieviations wrong (i think not- they agree with numerous other sources), or Ziroc made a mistake when he typed that line up... this second option does seem more likely, as 1 source is more likely to make a mistake than Several independant sources making the same mistake... this is definately odd..
