you need +4 weapons or better to hit Kangaxx's demi-lich form. some are:
the wave (halberd) +4
carsomyr
boneblade dagger
staff of rhynn (you should be able to get this early on, I'm guessing you're not in chapter 6)

staff of the magi
cutthroat (shortsword)
Warblade (two handed sword)

Protection from undead scrolls also work wonders. Ozzman, the spell you're thinking about might be Mordenkainen's Sword, but I'm not sure if it's effective against K.

You could also pick up Korgan to kill him, remember Korgans a beserker and when beserked is imune to imprisonment so simply beserk Korgan and give him the war hammer+1+4 against giantkin(found in Nalias keep) this works against this lich. This is how I killed him, you should be able to defeat him if your character is hasted before the rage wears off.

Most of the tips pointed out here are correct, the most important are:
1) Protect your party members (in his sight range, anyway) from Imprisonment
2) Kangaxx is immune to all spells in Levels 1-9, except those spells that create weapons (such as MMM)
3) Kangaxx can only be hurt by weapons that strike as a +4 weapon or better (there is a certain +2 mace that strikes as +5)

One tip that was missed, however, is DO NOT USE SUMMONS! They will be Imprisoned, not killed. So if you summon 5 allies, and they get Imprisoned, you will leave the area and strangely not me able to summon any more. You can only have 5 Summons--your 5 are still alive, sealed into a small chamber deep within the earth's mantle. You will need to use the 9th-level spell Freedom to get them out, before you will will EVER to cast ANY more Summoning spells.

And Yes, Dundee's page will tell you everything you'll ever need to know about Kangaxx.

just figured out the cloak of the stars will deal out minimul damage to his demi-lich form, hey its better than nothing.

If they are Imprisoned? Nope, sorry, they do not.

They will, provided you are still in the area in which you summoned them. Very important!!

Say you summon 5 monsters in a particular dungeon. You leave the map & travel elsewhere. The 5 summons will still be there. You could be gone for a month, & they would still remain summoned. Only upon your return to that same map would they be unsummoned.

The same principle works for those summons that are imprisoned.

Gotta be careful, it's a bug/oversight, & an irritating one at that. Thankfully it's not gamestopping, if you're careful about your summons.
