No, he's got a pentium 2...300 mhz
But that shouldn't really be a problem, I run it on a 300 mhz too and it runs smoothly.

And mine runs a 1.55mhz.

It's kinda slow and "choppy", but it works. I've had NO problems with BGII, but BGI CRASHED on me. I got right to the end where Sarevok is going to kill the Duke and Duchess and the game got stuck in the "intro movie" to the palace. It would put my characters in the first room, then the "entry movie" would start again.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

I eventually read about a way to fix that using Shadowkeeper or a patch. I did both, but haven't taken time to re-play the game.

I'm still trying to make it through BGII for the first time.

1.55MHz? How do you even start up your OS? A scientific calculator operates faster than that!

Surely you mean 1.55GHz?

We have a pentium III equivilant and a 700mhz proccessor. But our 3d card is so bad all games that require 3d support we run off of our proccessor instead of the card.

Agreed, your comp may be so old I cant remember when it was hi-spec, but it should have no major difficulties running BG2 with all the options down.

My brother has a similar system (PII 266, ATI something-or-other, 32 MB RAM) and experiences no major problems besides his gross incompetence.

Sounds like your dialogue.tlk file is corrupted, although its difficult to explain it happening twice - unless you havent re-installed but just use the same installation with the new discs. In that case you need to get dialogue.tlk fixed. You should be able to copy it over from the cd.

I had the same problem before. It took 5 reinstalls but it works now, so i guess you could try that, but it will waste a lot of time if it doesn't work.

Give THIS a try:

Do a full install of the game (you mentioned you have plenty of HD space) and run the latest (http://www.interplay.com/bgate2/patchinfo.html) patch. If this doesn't work, try adding a "no CD" crack to the full install so that the CD isn't involved in the gameplay. The system you listed above should be able to handle the 2D sprites engine, so a compatibility issue with your basic hardware shouldn't be the problem. The other thing I would suggest is that you make sure your video and sound drivers are compatible with your OS (I use XP and it runs fine), and that you check the Microsoft website for the latest, greatest DirectX components. Good luck!
