portrait downloads

hiya folks, maybe i'm missin' something real basic but i can't find how to use all those really cool portraits in the game. the readme says to go into the install directory for the game and add them there, what does this mean? how do you do it?
as you may by now have guessed i'm not the worlds sharpest computer tool! so an idiots guide would be v. helpful, not that i'm an idiot, just computerly challenged, which in some circles is considered the same thing i guess!!
hope there's some one out there going to take pity on me, some of those portraits are awesome, and it's an excelent opportunity to show just how much better you are than people like me....... at this sort of thing!!

Hi There

I've interpreted your question to mean that you have downloaded some portraits and you wish to use them in the game. The portraits need to be placed in the Portraits directory of your baldurs gate game install directory. For example, supposing you used the default, Baldurs gate will be installed to :

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate\

The Portraits directory may or may not exist. If it does not, you can create it by:

Double click "My Computer" on your desktop
Double click Your Hard Drive Icon
Double Click the "Program Files" folder
Double click the "Black Isle" folder
Doubleclick the "Baldur's Gate" folder
Right click on an empty space in the Baldur's Gate folder window, then click new, then click folder. Rename the folder to Portraits.

Once you have a protraits directory, you simply extract the portraits you downloaded into the portraits directory. If you did not download compressed files (ie they are not ZIPPED) you can simply copy them to the portraits directory, by selecting them all, pressing ctrl + c, then moving to the portraits directroy (same method as stated previously) and then pressing ctrl + v.

cheers dapoo you is a gent, i made my 6th level fighter/thief "boris" look like denise richards, than had him wear the boy/girl belt you find early on and changed his voice to female three! top and i thought this game was boring! well yous guys might not find it funny but it tickled me, for about 5 mins. now all i need to do is get into baldurs gate and go to the "blue oyster bar" on the waterfront, of to doctor klaus for the "snip and tuck" then its off to the boutique with the rest of the girls tra la la la la
