Does anyone else on the entire planet actually own this Eidos Interactive game?

I'm having a little trouble trying to take Port Royal without inflicting civilian casualties and adding to my infamy score. I did at one point get quite far into this battle without damaging civilians but some Frigates sailed up behind me and smashed up my fleet and I couldnt fight them off because I'd used up most of my gunpowder mashing up the town.

Bah!

This time I've powered up my main gunship with over 8 tonnes of gunpowder and I am going to fight my way through this battle slowly once again. When the gunships show up this time they are going to be in for a very nasty suprise!!!

Bring on the double-shot cannon ownage!!!

I found it in the bargainbins somewhat 2 years ago, so you're not the only one on the planet.

Unfortunately i don't have any hints and tips for you, because the game never got to me. I think i uninstalled after one or two days of not knowing what the hell i was doing.

You are really missing out, once you get into the game you are good to go for AGES.

I successfully captured Port Royal on my 5th attempt with NO reputation loss whatsoever (the other games were reloaded because my scurvy crew kept butchering civilians).

This was a hard battle, make no bones about it. I had to capture around 50 townsfolk before the governor relented and surrendered the town.

I then replaced the governor with one of my officers and Port Royal is now a pirate port.

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

As a sidenote, I've recently obtained a Spanish letter of Marque and I'm plundering the hell out of Le French. That'll teach them for setting up ports in the Carribean!

Garr!

Now that i think of it...this sounds an awful lot like Sid Meier's Pirates, and that's a game that i did enjoy. Of course Pirates had much better graphics.

This game is going sooooooooo well its ridiculous. I have converted my entire fleet to pinnace's and sloops, so they all move pretty quickly from port to port.

Furthermore, my pinnace flagship has 16 cannons on it, 60 gunners and 10 tons of gunpowder: it is devastating.

I've actually managed to 'take' two towns that I was never actually able to capture before simply by kidnapping citizens until the governor surrenders the town.

Previously, I always used my ship cannons to blow up the governors mansion, which usually had a very similar effect.

My fame score is currently at 5000+, and my infamy score at a nonexistant 0.

I have ships full of stolen booty and plenty of places to sell the goods. Life is good for this pirate

I play Cutthoats too. It is a nice game. Especially the land combat scenes are much better than those found in Pirates! The naval combat scenes are also a tad better since one can use more than one ship in the battle. It also has the advantage over Pirates that one can fly Danish colours on top of the other 4 nations.

However, I think that it lacks an overall general story as opposed to Pirates. Also the game is marred by several huge bugs.

Yeah, several bugs are real whoppers.

Not quite so many now I'm using the 7.0 patch though.

I currently have a fleet of 12 ships, solely pinnaces and brigs. They move around quickly and I have over 400 tons of storage space to keep any goods I 'aquire' in.

Just saved my game outside of Barbados before I take the town for the good of Spain!

I've taken this town 3-4 times already, but a bug has prevented me from installing my own governor. This time around, I'm going to sail into the harbour THEN try and take the town, rather than using battle view and sailing into the town.

Looking forward to this, should be a big payday.

I may have been quite ignorant, but where can I acquire the 7.0 patch? It sounds like I have to start playing Cutthroats again really soon.

Direct Link:

One thing worth mentioning is that it is possible to capture approximately 85-90% of ports without gaining any infamy. I cannot believe that I am powergaming a pirate game.

*sighs*

Thank you.

Does it not require a lot of reloads not gaining any infamy? In my experience there is always one or two of the crewmembers that get excited and shoot at some unarmed woman who is putting her hands in the air.
