this proposition has a couple of MAJOR restrictions, however i'll continue, i want to get some pratice at multi in preparation for NWN (ooooo), for i am a newbie (hangs head) at multi and want to play very much.(i hear you all reaching for your mouse buttons, but please read on.. )
now we all know that the restrictions on the net means that mear mortals like us, with 56k modems, simply can't hook up online (theoretically this should be possible, but you can't.)

here's where the restrictions come in

most phone companies offer person to person telephone calls on the same provider, either at drasically reduced rates or even free, with a connection fee (pennies).

i would like to hook up person to person with someone on my network and play a duo or if poss more (but probably not, unfortunately, due to 56k). this would require trust (hmmmm..) as telephone numbers would be exchanged, But, i'm still interested.

I am on the NTL network in the UK if anyone else on this one wants to play email me

ar.daneel@ntlword.com

we'll work something out

BTW if anyone knows the tecnicalities of such a task i.e how you connect two comps togther over a phoneline the please post thet too

thank you for the time it took to read this post

I don't know about BGII multiplayer... but I have had large amounts of experiance playing FPS on a 56k modem. So here are some choices.

1.)Do a direct modem to modem link. It only alows two people, but its easy to maintain connection and keeps speed (of the game) up. BGII, (if its anything like other games)should have that as an option in the multiplay section.

2.)Let someone else host! Sounds simple but its one of your best opions. Let someone who has a better connection host, and you join!

3.)Do any other kind of mulitplay, but limit the amount of people allowed in! It saves speed and saves your connection!

Those are what kept me alive in the fast paced world of multiplay... unfortunetly, I don't play anymore. Mostly because these arn't good enough sometimes and don't work/apply in others. Thats the best I can do!

Hmmm.... well then, I do belive that is what you are looking for... I think. Ummm, use a friend. Someone who lives close to you and you trust them. Use their phone number. Your computer (while on the net) will dial their number. Your friends computer (connected to net) will answer and you should establish a modem to modem connection! If it is what I think it is. I shall repeat myself for emphisis... TRY IT WITH A FRIEND WHO YOU CAN TRUST!!!

That should work... oh and btw... sorry for taking so long in anwering... I forgot about this thread, cause I think it was during the crisis with my name!
