Does anyone here have any recommendations for any Playstation (one or two) RPG's that don't involve the words Final or Fantasy? I've just burned out of fighting Aeons and whatnot.

The Grandia series is pretty good. The first one is on 1, the second and "xtreme" are on 2. Dark Cloud 1 and 2 are both good, but you level up weapons instead of characters, most of the time.

edit: I'll probably think of more over time and just edit this post.

Arc the Lad: It's three games in one, and comes with a bunch of extra junk, including little character bios and things you put on the analog sticks. SNES level graphics, and plays a bit like FFT without 500000 menus for everything. The strategy guide is about 1500 pages, I think, and hardcover.

Lunar: I haven't played this one, but I saw a few screens. It looks like a SNES final fantasy game.

RPG maker 1 and 2: Make your own, and choose SNES-level graphics (1) or original playstation-level graphics (2)

Another vote for Vagrant Story. It was more of a straight dungeon crawl than true RPG, but a great game.

For some new PS2 ones, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Shadow Hearts: Covenant both look pretty neat (haven't got to try'em meself yet tho).

Suikoden series must not be overlooked.

#1 and #2 for ps1 are great huge games! Loads of NPCs to develop, minigames and strategic as well as tactical combat. They are hard to find and expensive though. $40 for #1 and $70 for #2 on average.

#3 for PS2 is okay, but not as good as the previous installments. #4 is due out in January for the PS2 and looks like from the previews that it will return the series to it's previous greatness.

I really enjoyed Kingdom Hearts, really pretty game and i thought it was fun mixing in all the disney stories.

If you like all the disney movies, this is worth a look. Probably bargain bin these days too
