Does anyone else play this? We got it for my dad for father's day, and have been having trouble starting an account, and then, playing the game. The game part was our fault, we didn't have a powerful enough video card.

Once we get a new video card, he'll be able to actually play the game. He started a character, before we found out about the graphics card, and his character's name was the Angry Weasel, I think. If he even uses that character after finding out how he looks. (the videocard made everything but menus black and white, so he has no idea what his character looks like.)

I can't remember what server he's on.

Been playing since beta, loving it. It is an excellent game IMHO. I'd recommend you use a Geforce ti 4200 and up and make sure you have at least 512 of ram. The geforce fx 5200 plays the game but horribly.

This game is called an RPG but it is much more action/combat based. You can RP all day with other people but really any NPC roleplaying or interaction is extremely basic. We call it 'RPG lite' cuz that's what it is. Still it makes up for this when you need a break from intense RPing and want alot of fun cuz with COH you will have that, trust me. Combat is the games best part, the system is flawless making fight sequences a blur of raining superpowers and arrested criminals .

Enjoy, COH is the no. 1 game in the charts at the moment.

The guy that writes 8bit theater posted something about prisons and invincible enemy hordes.

Dear City of Heroes,

I like the idea of the prisons, but it's not cool when you're trying to escape and you have to fight through an invincible legion of enemies just to die to get put back into prison to die again.

Why don't you, I don't know, fix that. 'Kay?
Could someone explain about the prisons? I don't think the instructions said anything about them...

edit: I found out we have a powerful enough videocard, it's just that it's on the wrong computer. We might switch them, or we might buy a new card on ebay.

This is something that was put in during the first monthly update (when you pay to play you get a horde of free content every month - really you do!). It was designed to put a twist on certain (only some) missions/quests so when you are defeated you don't just retry or respawn in another location with xp debt but are captured by the enemy.
I think It's fun and defo. keeps things from getting linear but I have yet to experience a mission with this in it as the update is still fresh.

That said there are other twists too. Once, while attempting to save an NPC from a group of cultists who were sacrificing her to their dark gods, I was defeated and instead of the expected respawn in another location I ended up being sacrificed also...and became undead for an hour or so, lol. Was interesting to watch.

We just got the new card, and the game is pretty good. I've got a few problems, though. I quit because the mapserver connection was lost, and I couldn't do anything. When I came back on, I heard a few whacks and bangs and something that sounded like fire. Then the screen came up, and I sort of woke up dead. Do I have to find a safe place before quitting so this doesn't happen? And how often do the servers crash? I tried three times to get back on, and then came here after the connection was lost on the third retry. I'm on Guardian server.

My character is called Tyrian (one of my favorite old games)
Lv. 3
Technology-Scrapper
katana-regeneration powers.

Edit: lv8 now. I just got killed by a popup! It switched itself to my active window during a fight, and took about 30 seconds to switch. Took another 30 seconds to reload the game, and by that time, I had died!

Yes always log off in a safe place (I find empty rooftops are good). Mapserver disconnects are rare for me, I'd wager It's your ISP. The server I play on has went down once since I started playing, for 15 minutes and then came back up. You will know if it is the server cuz the green bar will turn grey and be unselectable.

Is there any level where it's safe to enter Perez Park? Two of my missions are there, and I can't beat any of them at level 9. I'm supposed to kill 10 CoT, and I'm waiting until at least level 12 for that one, and 10 of those blood brother people. Their groups are too large, and the bosses are too hard, even though there's only two of them standing between groups.

Someone mentioned that you could make another costume, but I forgot where. Is it true?

Find a team. Go to Perez and click 'Seek team' and wait, then ask the leader to select your mission as you need help. Or create a team of your own to do it. You should be ready for PP by now really but don't travel there alone until at least lvl 14.

I've seen groups of level 10 characters get beaten up badly by the groups of enemies, and I figured I'd go after the bosses. If I was on a team, someone would probably get too close to the horde of enemies and get us all killed. The only people I didn't see get beat up was a level 29 character and a group of about 7 level 12 characters. Groups would slow me down to the point where I'm waiting 30 seconds for the screen to update. I'll probably just accept one mission at a time until I'm level 14. Or at least 12.

Hmm... I just thought of a plan. I'm going to go try it.

It worked! But I was getting rid of the wrong group, so I have to see if it works again! My plan was to find a lower level group of enemies and beat up as many of them as I could, then run and hope I didn't die.

Hmmm I'd encourage teaming as COH was made for it. If you're lagging that bad when you team you either don't have enough ram or video ram or your ISP is lagging you...strange. Glad you sorted it anyways. I'm still having a blast with this game, lovin' it every time I play.
