Is there some kind of inference to be made about role playing games and not getting out alot?

Perhaps your favourite RPG was also the RPG which took the most time to finish, therefore required more average time inside than normal?

The virtual depth of completion within the simulation world that was Ultima 7 for instance, probably took the longest its taken me to solve (a two years on and off) out of any Ultima I'd played. It is also one of my prime RPG favourites in all time masterpieces of true digital art...

Bard's Tale III: The Thief of Fate
Ultima VII: The Black Gate
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Champions of Krynn
Ultima Underworld 2
Baldur's Gate I

Just to name a couple....just what is it about this genre that has obsesses us so?

My favourite RPG ever, (PC or Console) would have to be Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Not only is it my fav RPG, it is also my favourite game of all time!

I'd have to say, Diablo 1 followed by Diablo 2. I don't care if some people here don't consider them RPGs but I do. Those 2 were the most addictive games I've ever played. Those 2 followed by BG2.

Ick...yes, you got that right, Diablo and Diablo 2 do not qualify as RPG's despite the fact that they contain elements of role playing (classes, characters, treasure seeking)...
Perhaps Diablo 3 might actually add some depth to the series, if Blizzard get around to it. They have alot of potential, but its just a pity that they lack any depth at all.

No offense, but I finished Diablo in a day and Diablo II in about a week...they are much too shallow of a game experience to call an RPG. Compare that with Baldur's Gate II's two months, and the results are incomparable in terms of quality and depth of role playing.

The only time I'll ever play either Diablo now is during a LAN, as their multiplayer action makes them somewhat enjoyable.

I think the baldurs gate series is by far my favorite. Although there were several features of Pool of Radiance that enjoyed, once i got past all the bugs of course
