Well theres no section on it here. But I assume a lot of you have heard about the game
Well I started playing it recently. And let me tell you its amazing. The smartest most interesting NPCs of any game. Everyone has a home, and a schedule. They drink beer, or loiter and smoke. When a wolf pack sees some ostrich things they kill them and eat them. The whole story takes place in a escape from new york type prison colony. Theres drug dealing. You follow people around looking for the right time to mug them when the guards dont see you. The graphics are great. Character building is very simplistic. Anyhow I highly reccomend it. Anyone who has played it what was your impression? Also, Gothic 2 should be in english sometime this summer. Its already been released in German since december. |

You know I put off playing it for a long time because of the name.
My connotation of the name gothic seemed to mean something to do with gothic rock, or vampires. For some reason I assumed it was associated with black clothes and goth pop culture. But no, the game was made in Germany obviously, and the German connotation of Gothic is the ancient tribes they all are descended from. It means, primitive barbaric tribes to a German. And thats what it is, three primitive tribes trapped together behind a magic barrier. Anyhow its a great story and I felt like sharing that name story. Gothic does need a 32 mb video card but it doesnt have the highest system requirements at all. Im sure it runs well on a 500 mhz. |

I tried to play it but the controls, yes the controls is really hard to master.I always press the wrong thing or forgot which one is for which function. I stop playing because of that.

Actually I'm thinking about purchasing Gothic I or II right now. Here in Germany part 1 comes in cheap in special offers and part 2 is rather freshly released. Can you tell me if it's a RPG based on a medieval fantasy world? Or is it sci-fi, cause I don't like the latter very much.
Thanks for any information.

Be warned though, the game is strictly keyboard only. Mouse support are only minimal. Actually you are better off learning the keyboard commands rather than to make sense of the mouse control. BTW, This game is based on a medieval fantasy world; if you can get used to the keyboard commands and fighting style, you will love this game! I have been waiting for the sequel since I finished the game last year. [ 05-13-2003, 12:16 PM: Message edited by: Paladin2000 ]

Well Im most of the way through it and I used the standard mouse keyboard combo.
The activate command is a combination of left clcik and w both at once. It is not intuitive at all its learned. The graphics are great. Similar to the game arx fatalis, better than neverwinter nights worse than morrowind. And this is for the orignal Gothic, way ahead of its time by about a year. The game is so great. I recomend it highly. Very suprising. Gothic 2 isnt out in the Us yet but Ill certainly get it. Its a fantasy theme, its story is a lot like the movie escape from new york. Youre thrown in a magically enclosed prison colony with a mission. And you have to try to get out. You meet weird cult leaders. And you beat a lot of people up lol. Great game only fault is if to wonder around to much you can screw up later events.
Ps. open the ini fire and sent gore to free or expaned menus to 1 for full bloodness, or if you have it delete the Binki.ds(Or something) file to experince the unedited and only as far as I know part of the game. |
