Here was my final party from the Cloakwood Mines onward to the end:
Me - Ranger; had an 18/76 strength Minsc - Ranger and whom many think is the best Tank in the game Yeslick - Fighter/Cleric; give him the Gaunlets of Ogre Power Imoen Branwen - great cleric Dynaheir - great mage * So I had three fighters, 2 clerics, one thief and one mage. I got through very nicely! |

At least to start (some players don't become available till relatively late in the game, of course) I would try this bunch:
You as mage Minsc (best melee fighter early in the game and fun to have around) Kivan (Kivan and Coran make an extremely powerful ranged attack team with the bow) Coran (see above; since Coran has very poor detect traps another thief is needed; good to have two thieves anyway because they can do a lot of damage backstabbing together as a duo) Viconia (I like her better than Branwen and Jaheira) Montaron (just to do something different for once; have Monty backstab Xzar to kill him off--he'll gladly do it; Monty comes in at 50% stealth and because you pick him up so early you can get his measely 10% detect traps up in no time) OR Imoen (I know she is one of the best liked NPCs but her chirpiness actually kind of becomes annoying to me over time; in any case, she definitely becomes a very powerful character and would add gender balance in this lineup) |
