I'd like to clarify something. When you guys are talking about getting this Tower mod for free, are you talking about getting a pirated version for free or a mod which replicates this function, but is done by someone else?

On another note, I'd like to get this Tower mod. I don't mind paying $1.80 or whatever it is. I don't mind paying a bit extra. Will this work if I have an ongoing game or will it only show up if I start a new game?

They didn't spend 4 years making the tower mod, they spent an hour, and they're going to make thousands with it.

In Morrowind they used to make free stuff, and it felt like they were thanking us for buying the game. Now they are sellign them, and it feel like they're saying "We know you bought our product, but we're greedy and don't really care about you so we'll slowly sell you parts that should have been included at retail".

Take a look at the horse armor. Come on, 2$ for 2 textures, that's ridicullous. It's just as if you bought a novel, and the writer told you. "You know that scene that didn't feel complete? Well, it's because I removed a paragraph. Send me two buck and I'll send you the paragraph. Oh! And that other incomplete part? 5 buck and you can get the complete chapter!"

What happened to companies that (send me 2$ for the rest of this post)

@Memnoch - other mods that duplicate the function. You should be able to add any mod like that mid-game and it will integrate itself into your world with no interruption.

CB, you obviously didn't get the message, to you it sounded just like wining, but that's okay, it's not that i had my mind set on the likes of you in the first place. i know better by now.

All Crimsonblade did was buy a mod and tell us how much he likes it. He didn't tell you that you were stupid, arrogont or foolish for any choice you may or may not have made. (Though he did make fun of your previous ranting.)

So, I'm butting in at this point to point out that you've been whining about this since you first heard of it and haven't once by-passed the opportunity to hijack a thread and whine about it since. And, you've spared no opportunity to attack Crimsonblade over this issue.

If you feel ripped off, too bad. You knew this was happening (like most the rest of us) prior to the release and didn't have to buy the game until such time as they issued some "Platinum Release" or some-such-thing that would include all this stuff for free.

So get over it. Those that wish to pay, will pay. Those that don't, won't. It's our money, not yours.

As for the thread, Crimsonblade did a good job explaining what he liked and the coolness of the new mod. It sounds good. I'll probably buy it.

Because it's my money to waste.

Watch it. There's no need to get insulting. It's ok to share your opinion, but direct and barely veiled insults are certainly not. Calling someone's opinion "whining" isn't any less insulting either.

If you guys want to discuss this topic stay civil, if I think it's getting out of hand I'll just lock this and may or my not have to give warnings. This goes for everyone in this thread.

Well, I bought the Wizards Tower (I didn't mind paying the $1.98). But apparently the installer doesn't work on 64-bit Windows editions:

Quote:
ATTENTION: The secured installers for downloadable Oblivion content (currently the Horse Armor add-on) are not compatible with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows. When attempting to install the content, an error will appear, and the installer will close. We are looking into a solution to this. In the meantime, the installer will only function on 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. If you have purchased this content and play on a computer running a 64-bit version of Windows, please do not delete your installer.
Apparently ALL the Oblivion plugins have this problem and they have not shown any indication that they'll be fixing this in the short term. So what happens to those of us who bought it and can't use it??

I'm a bit angry now - I didn't mind paying for content as long as the price was reasonable, but I expect the content to work!

I just went to the Bethesda forums to see if they had a solution to this yet and I find out this is the THIRD paid plugin they've released which doesn't work?!

That's very poor. If you're going to charge someone for something, make sure it bloody works first.

OK, I found a way to fix the official plugin install problem from the Bethesda forums (from another user):

Quote:
Step 1
Go to start, run, and enter the following command in then press ok
control userpasswords2
then click on Administrator, and click Reset Password
create a easy password for this, then press ok, this should close that User Accounts window.

Step 2
copy the exe file of the plugin into
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents

Step 3
run the exe plugin, by rightclicking it, and choosing runas. Click the button that says "The following user, Select administrator and enter the password you made before. Walla, it does the activation, then installs it no problems

Step 4 (Backing up)
Go to the following directory
C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data
and copy all files with DLC*.* and the DLCList to a backup area, this will elimate going through all that process again, if need to reinstall.
