I'm level 11 now btw. I've been playing too much and been getting almost no sleep. I think I got a cold out of it.
Can i interest you in some of my performance enhancing powders ?

Would signing up as an arena combatant gain me some xp ? I'm still at level 1, and would like to go up a bit before venturing into the wilderness.

Btw...i chose to be a battlemage, as i usually do, so where should a character like mine head to first ?
I'd wait on the Arena I just finished the arena quests when I was lvl 6 and a vampire but I also used a custom spell that does some 60 damage. With only being able to cast it 2-3 times before running out of magika. Many of the fights where simple but a lot of them really where tough. Battles are to the death and you can't loot your opponent so not much money in it unless you manage to win everything. Once you do though and you become grand champion you can start fighting weekly matches that are worth alot. Course the grand champion fight was the easiest fight ever....

As far as where to start as a battlemage. Just follow the story quests and take side trips to some of the mines and such. Doing the Mages Guild quests are good as it gets you access to the spell and enchantment makers and takes awhile and you get some decent low level equipment.

On the comment on the arena being good for xp... well nothing is really good for xp because it doesn't exist. Just go around the world and have fun. Play the way you want because thats what will determine how fast you level up since everything you do gives you a chance to raise your skill that you use and once you level up 10 skill points in your major skills thats when you will level up.

I'm a level 3 Dark Elf Assassin. I haven't done any of the main quests, just mostly exploring. I did manage to complete one side quest where you have to investigate a murder that seemed pretty interesting. I also joined the Thieves’ Guild and have done a couple of their quests.

I've been limiting my play, as it doesn't run very well on my FX 5900. I ordered a PNY GeForce 6800 GS 256MB last week and it just arrived today. Can't wait to get home so I can install it and really get into Oblivion. Of course I'm stuck at work for another 5 hours, then an hour drive home, so that kind of sucks.

Level 16 now, casting spells and doing the alchemy part yourself is really speeding things up. In morrowind i either looted or bought potions, and i broke into people's houses and looted their chests and stuff with lockpicks. In Oblivion i create my own potions, and i use a spell to open doors and locked chests. Occasionally i also use a trainer, but most of the time i'm flat broke, so training is a luxury i can't afford. I'm also conjuring my ass off, summoning skeletons and stuff, and then smash em to bits with either a sword or an axe, good for Conjuration, Sword AND Blunt, which are all three major skills of my char.

Level 15 now, well into the Fighter's Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests. The initial Thieve's Guild one is really annoying, as I can't find the person (not the initial house.) Sneak attacks with a dwarven mace look and sound sweet.

I really think the Dark Brotherhood quests are amongst the funnest ones I've played in an RPG in awhile.

Well I'm level 20 now. I completed both the Thief Guild and Dark Brotherhood. I've also been named Knight Errant. I'm now doing single quests and exploring ruins until I decide what I'll be doing next. I might do the Mage guild so that I can make my own spells and stuff, but the Arena seem interesting too.
