Hi all, I have never played Morrowind, although I have played Daggerfall. I just wanted to know if the games are alike. I loved the char creator in Daggerfall. The ability to give yourself good and bad traits were awesome, and the ability to make your own spells rocked! All the reviews I read don't mention the above two points in that much detail, so I would like some feedback from you on this.
Another thing, I was told that the story of Morrowind isn’t as good as that of Daggerfall, and that the game is not even an eight as large of its predecessor even if you add up all of its expansions.

Thanks for the info!

MW doesn't have traits as such. The closest thing is when you choose a birth sign, many of which are silly.

You can pick from 21 pre-genned classes, or create your own as you see fit.

Spellmaker is back, and you can design your own spells, including multiple effects in a single spell. You can also have items enchanted with various effects (always better done by a mage guild person as these never fail).

Yeah, MW takes place on a (large) island, so in terms of world space, even with the two add-ons, it's smaller. However, there is plenty to do and there are many factions you can join aside from the usual Fighter/Mage/Thief guilds.

Story, well, I have to say, it's hackneyed and we've all been there many times before.

If you're thinking of buying the game, I suggest you get the Game of The Year edition, which comes with MW, Tribunal, Bloodmoon, and the Construction Set.

Since you liked Daggerfall, you will probably like this one, too.

Degrader you convinced me!

Lol I'm getting the game of the year one. All I know is it better be huge. I took a look at some mods and found some that say they add more landmass, etc. So I will be installing them as soon as my copy gets here.

Thats too bad that they removed the detailed char editor though... The whole signs thing is just dumb.

Yes, the game is worth of your money even if you will be both pleased and dissapointed

Yes, you can create your own class in Morrowind but your possibilities aren't so extensive as in Daggerfall. Nevertheless, you can create a class which will fit your play style.
Yes, you can create custom spells and custom enchanted items in Morrowind but the spells are even more overpriced (as far as spell points are concerned) than in Daggerfall. Nevertheless, you can become a strong spellcaster.

Moreover there is alchemy in Morrowind, you can create custom potions. Naturally, graphics is something very different from Daggerfall. Add a very nice storyline, many quests, and character development during the game and you get Morrowind.

Ok good, I already ordered it just because of the mods available, but the posts here make it seem like I did the right thing.

More overpriced then in Dag? Eeep... That’s bad. Well of course all my spells in Dag were of at least 3 effects, hehe. I assume you can still be a horseback archer? Thatl prolly be the first char I make. Followed by a mage, and then the tank.

Archery, yes. Horses, no. Travel is by foot, magic, or public transportation.

Also, I'd suggest you play the original first to get a feel for things before adding in any mods.

Yeah, spellmaking can get expensive, especially when you start adding in multiple effects. It's duration, though, that really eats up the gold.

If you want horses, wait for Oblivion. But yeah, getting MW was a good choice. You will not be dissapointed.

There's mods out there where you can ride horses.
