I'm in balmora, and I've joined the blades and mages guild etc. etc. Yet i'm still level one, and only 2/10 towards level 2. Is this normal? I have done things, I've not rushed straight there. But is it correct? How do I gain the exp to level?

Yes, it is normal. You will advance very slowly in the beginning, but soon it will come much easier. Make sure that you make use of the skills you chose as majors and minors so that you will gain experience towards level ups.

Odd. Its normally the other way around in games isnt it? Quick levels and then slower at the end. Ah well. As long as its normal. What do I need to fill to level? All of my magors and minors? What does levelling give you?

You need to increase 10 points in Major/Minor skills to gain a level (you also need to sleep to level up). Those 10 points may be distriputed on any of your Major/Minor skills. When you level up you gain a number of additonal Health equal to a tenth of your Endurance and bonuses to your stats.

if you want to increase your level very fast at the early of game, take a sum of money and train your skill in Balmora.

You will also be able to increase 3 of your stats of at least one point.
If you level up in skills which are governed by a stat, you might gain multipliers:
example: you level 4 points in marksman (agility) -> when you level up you will be able to raise your agility by 4/2=2 points instead of only one you would get without the multiplier.
So, try to increase skills related to at least 3 different stats before leveling up, so that you will get multipliers.

Also, patch the game to the latest version, so that misc skills can give yo multipliers as well (oldest version give you none)

Yes, the leveling may seem odd, but in the daggerfall manual, they gave a good description of how you should level up. They say that you shouldn't gain a level just for killing a troll, but gaining levels for getting better at what you do. Good Luck Beumanoir, and if you want 5 whole points for strength, just jump all the time so acrobatics gets up (only if its a misc skill)

All true - and since I'm obsessive about these things, once I decide the type of character I'm going to play I try to select skills that cover a nice range of attributes, and at least 2 from each of the other areas (so my mage will likely have 2 major/minor skills in stealth and combat). This allows you to get those wonderful multipliers a lot more often, and you level up more quickly early in the game.

Of course, my characters also steal anything that isn't nailed down (and some that is ) no matter their class, so I can keep on purchasing training. You can advance quite a few levels without leaving Balmora if you keep yourself funded and check *everywhere* in town for people who can train you.

Learning to train or advance in three areas before you level up to get those multipliers quickly becomes second nature.
